just got this in an email about some email outages we're having this afternoon

"In NYC and Chicago people will lose connectivity to e-mail for about 5 minutes. We apologize for this incontinence but this step is needed to pinpoint the problem as quickly as possible."

umm, one of these words is not like the others.

anybody else get things like this in their inbox?

"Oh man, I should of taken the el instead of walking."

Makes me want to tear each hair from my head.

I think you were actually hearing:

"Oh man, I should've taken the el instead of walking."

also, the use of apostrophes when pluralizing words:
$4 2 slice's and 2 soda's

well, now i guess this is more about grammar

i just thought it was funny that an inability to control one's bowel movements would somehow aid in determining the root cause of email trouble.
from now on when my laptop crashes, i'll just shit on it, i guess.

I only recently learned that I was incorrectly using It's and Its. I had them reversed.

i don't really give a shit
probably because im careless myself

but

i have to design ads for a customer
that continually refers to the "background" as "back round"
the dumb bitch actually spells it out that way
every single time

and no, these ads are not round at all

Pacific instead of specific. As in "I pacifically heard him say it was a red car."

I also hate it when people say "supposubly".

the shape of your posts relaxes me.

When my friend's very old mother died a few years ago, I went to the wake with my ex. It was deep on the south side in one of those banquet halls turned church/funeral home. An old lady got up to deliver the eulogy and she was a typical Baptist screamer. Her eulogy was very nice and very thoughtful and then she got to the part about the deceased's illness. She started screaming, "AND VIOLET WAS IN INCRUUUUUUUUUCIATING PAIN!" I chuckled to myself and to this day, if either my ex or I are hurt in any way, we belt out "incruciating" and then laugh our asses off. Totally off the using words incorrectly subject, sometimes it's good to infuse a little comedy into funerals or otherwise sad situations.

Man, turns out it must have been from the CMJ days. Never mind.

supposably.

I had a boss who said it all the time. At least once a day. How do you get to be a boss and not even know how to say supposedly?!

I still have touble with effect/affect, though.

"affect" is the verb. "effect" is the noun.

Irregardless. If this means anything, it only means "regardless" :o

"Irregardless means regardless? What a country!"

But affect can also be a noun, as in affectation - The conscious subjective aspect of feeling or emotion.

See? Not as easy as it seems.

Our VP constantly uses "these ones" and "funner" as part of their daily vocabulary.

maybe i'm crazy, but aren't "affect" and "affectation" two different words? one has an extra -ation, right? "affect" is always a verb. "affectation" is always a noun. (although, "effect" can be a noun and a verb, but the verb is a different meaning.)
