keep them until you have a whole bunch and then post 'em for sale on ebay. timmyjoe will bid on them

I would do no such thing. I don't like to get them, because then I too have to feel guilty about wanting to get rid of them. I want to, but just can't bring myself to do it.

I also used to cut up the long boxes and hang them on my walls in the dorm. I also used to buy the record sized promo cardboard posters from the record stores to hang on my wall. Cheap musical expression.

I was at my parents' house and found a shitload of the old school longboxes from the environment-killin' early days of the CD. As a kid I couldn't bring myself to toss them.

I throw everything out now.

I used to seperate the front part of those and hang them on the wall.

BTW, what fucking dildo ever thought that longbox was a good idea? I mean I can understand wanting to make a bigger album cover for people who were used to records but...people had been buying these things called cassettes for awhile at that point so I dont think it was gonna shake up the world or anything.

They were done that way to help stores that had built rack systems that fit lps easily switch to cds...two columns of cds fit where one column of records fit and the box made the height the equivalent of the records.

Plus I think they were supposed to deter stealing. Remember when cassettes came in those unwieldy plastic anti-theft thingys?

Back to the original question - I keep 'em. But when I take an CD off the shelf, the cardboard sleeve stays on the shelf.

I actually use mine still, since I don't have much of my cd collection on computer and I like having access to liner notes and lyrics when they are included. I no longer buy blank disc that come with jewel cases to burn stuff to, now I just buy a crap ton of blank cds and use the soft paper cd sleeves I got for free at work. I believe they are for sending demos or if you want to make a cheap EP sleeve.

I ordered this old hip hop cd off some site last year and it came in a longbox. I can't remember if I kept it or not.

Yeah, I leave them on the cd cases and put them on my shelves. They look pretty.

Yep, me too. Why would anyone throw these out?

I think that "dust covers" is the better name for these.
