They've done it. They really have.

For all those that enjoyed "The Last Broadcast", as well as their debut, you're in for a real treat. Deep atmosphere, swirling, musical, dreamlike choruses, warm and emotional. This is the record I hoped they'd make!

"Almost Forgot Myself" is some of the best music they've ever created. Seriously.

"Snowden" is so massive, with it's orchestral chorus, and thick distorted guitar breakdown, that melts right back into a gentle melody.

"The Storm" is tripped out, and even has a slight Air influence.

"Walk In Fire" builds and builds into a monster of a tune....the stadium anthem on this album.

"One Of These Days" is another galloping, psychadelic excursion with a brilliant chorus.

Definite contender for album of the year. Trust me on this.

-Dalen

Just found out about OiNK yesterday... they have everything! Mercury Rev, M. Ward, Athlete, a true Beck pre-release and of course... Doves.

For new signees... I kept getting a "we're full" message, but after about an hour I was able to sign up.

I love it... it's not Last Broadcast, but what is? This release sounds like they're not all the way done mixing yet. I hear a couple of "unfinished" moments on track 5.

Regardless, it's a solid release and one I will buy on its actual release date... They still take you to that place, a la Mercury Rev, that only a few groups can. I'd love to hear this on an airplane! Music like this always sounds so much cooler 35,000 feet up.

BTW, Dalen... I think you mentioned the new Athlete in another thread... that's pure quality as well.

yeah, i'm feeling the new athlete. a bit more mellow, but mature release for them.

In the summer of 2000 i visited England and went to a market stand with cd singles. I had the owner pick me out some good new singles so i could get a jump on some bands. I ended up with Idlewild's - These Wooden Ideas, Dark Star - ????(can't seem to find it) and The Doves - Cd1 & 2 of Catch the Sun. Amazingly i didn't like the actual single but liked the b-sides.

I think the guy did pretty well on his choices. I'll have to track down the Darkstar(?) single to see if it's any good.

i tend to find many releases on torrent sites well before they hit ss. there's usually no waiting, and the transfers are way faster.

uh, did you mention something about rules?

"Black and White Town" opens up sounding like Martha and the Vandellas' "Heatwave".

One problem I have with the Doves: The drummer only seems to know one beat. Seriously, It's the same in every song. I mean, it's a good beat and all but mix it up a bit.
