Me:

I just finished Cormac McCarthy's The Road. It's a post-apocalyptic tale of a man and his son wandering the American wasteland in search of food and refuge from cannibals. The feel-good book of the year. Seriously though, it's by far the best book I've read in ten years. The writing is so good that I had to read some of the passages aloud just to hear how good the words really were. Recommended to anyone who can handle it.

I'm also about two hundred pages into Woodward's State of Denial. If I were Woodward, I would have named this book You Were Right When You Thought Donald Rumsfeld Is A Moron.

No fiction right now.
But I am CONSTANTLY reading
The Tao Te Ching

About 3 times a week I pick it up for a little while, at least.

Just finished reading In Persuasion Nation, a collections of shorts from George Saunders...my favorite writer these days, so of course I loved it. Still think Civilwarland in Decline or Pastoralia are better, but some really good stuff if you like the huxley/orwell kinda thing...although not quaite as overtly political.

Started on Lullaby by Chuck Palahniuk. Avoided reading him because of the whole Fight Club thing feuling my distrust of writers who get famous by way of a movie, but he is actually a pretty darn good writer and so far I'm digging this one too. Still have avoided Fight Club, but enjoyed Haunted and Choke.

Treason: Liberal Treachery from the Cold War to the War on Terrorism By Ann Coulter

Books are meant to communicate ideas or entertain, but this one leaves me feeling threatened and exhausted.

Me, too.

Get out of my brain.

For the non-head-shaven cult members, the secondary title of "Collapse" is "How Societies Choose To Fail Or Succeed".
Probably matches Ripple Red's offering as the book to NOT pick up if you want to feel hopeful about life.

The Six Wives of Henry VIII

It's a huge read and taking forever since I have zero time anymore.

still slaving through Bob Colacello's biography of Andy Warhol called "Holy Terror." Got two intriguing novels on deck next though:

"Never Mind the Pollacks" by Neal Pollack, which I think many of you might enjoy.

and another one called "Too Weird for Ziggy."

I attempted this one once too... it took me too long to get through so I ended up giving up on it, but the subject matter was riveting, imo.

Just finished Best American Short Stories of 2006 and actually found a few good authors to check out further.

Next up: What is the What (new Dave Eggers). I understand is light on the postmodern frills, so it should be an interesting read. I tend to be on the side that thinks Dave Eggers is a good writer and an interesting personality, but I'm sure many others would not necessarily agree.

I read a review of this in the newspaper and it did capture my interest. Unfortunately I don't get to read novels during term time.

I'm obsessed with all thing Royal from the 1400's-1800's. Especially that of the French. What bloody bastards they were.

I'm determined to read this thing. Even if I only get a few pages in a day.

I tried to read this, just to get an idea of what the hell makes her tick. What I ended up concluding is that her whole thing is just one big gimmick. In other news, sun rises in the east.

Tom Wolfe. Thomas Wolfe wrote "Look Homeward Angel"

and Kipling is awesome.

I am trying to find something to grab my attention, and I think it will be the Taylor Branch trilogy on Civil Rights.

So has Kiyosaki managed to write the same book for the fifth time or does The Donald actually add something new to the mix?

Weird, I was just looking at that on my 'yet unread' bookshelf, thinking that might be my next book... after I finish Saul Bellow The Adventures of Augie March first.
