from the NYTimes:
Quote:
Vice President Dick Cheney, campaigning for Republicans four days before congressional elections, said on Friday victories for Democratic critics of the Iraq war would tell militants that ''their strategy is working.''

also this from the Washington Post:

Quote:
President Bush, campaigning to get out the Republican vote in Tuesday's midterm elections, challenged Democrats today to produce a "plan for success" in Iraq instead of leveling only "harsh criticism."

"So far, the Democrats have refused to tell us their plan on how they're going to secure the United States," Bush told supporters in Springfield, Mo. He later gave essentially the same speech in Joplin, Mo.

Since when does the Legislative Branch make foreign policy? Or is it that bad in Iraq that dude is actually crying out for help even from the dreaded Democrats?

Last month, my next door neighbor was home from Iraq for two weeks before his re-enlist started up (he's career military).

He says it is that bad, and worse. Execution squads running rampant. People disappearing. Terrified families holed up in their homes and starving to death.

That's our "liberation" and our "gift" to the Iraqi people. Factions and tribes attempting to wipe each other out at all costs. While Cheney and Rummy go on about "difficult transition to democracy."

And the soldiers in the thick of it are just trying to do their jobs.

Fuck you, Cheney. You great goddamn liberator.

From the LA Times:

Quote:
In rural Missouri to help embattled Sen. Jim Talent, Bush invoked God's name in defending his administration's policy in Iraq. "I believe freedom is universal. I believe there's an Almighty, and a great gift of the Almighty to each man and woman and child on the face of the earth is a desire to be free," he said, recalling that thousands of Iraqis voted in free elections once they were freed from Saddam Hussein's tyranny.

Can't wait for Bush to step down, it's going to be a long two years.

I just heard on the radio that four major military newspapers--the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Times--are all printing editorials on Monday calling for Rumsfeld to be replaced.

So maybe the Democrats don't have a plan, but it's nice to see the military trying to come up with one.

Yeah, Olberman had that one last night. I'd be interested to hear what Mike (afreshstart) has to say about that; like, do those papers hold some influence with the military families that read them?

I think you'd be surprised. I know we always got the Army Times, and its kind of a trade mag for what is going on with new gear and new deployment schedules etc....

I think this should play pretty big.

Personally, I love Dick Cheney because he tells people to fuck off on the floor of the Senate and shoots people in the face.

We have to do everything in our power to ensure freedom... oh wait you were talking about the atrocities of the insurgents. Nevermind.

Long and painful. Image
So out on the campaign trail, Bush is now saying that if we "let the terrorists win" (by voting in the Democrats), that the Middle East will ransom "our oil" -- is he serious?
Everyone get out and VOTE tomorrow-y!!!!!!

2 long years is right! Pray that he doesn't start something in Iran in the meantime. There is a high probability that sh*t hits the fan before this maniacal freak is out.

Rumsfeld could be America's biggest mistake of the past 40 or so years.

It hurts my head to think about how poor the leadership of this country is right now. And yet I honestly believe the Republicans will end up on the winning side tomorrow.
