I go in for testing to see if I am a good canidate today at 10. what's the recovery time for this typre of procedure? I know technology has gotten better over the years. Hopefully, I'll be lens free for the first time in over 20 years.

A coworker of mine had it done last year, had to have corrections done a number of times because they didn't get it right the first time. He's happy with it now, but was very unhappy while they were doing all the adjusting. A friend of mine had it done and it permanently screwed up his vision - not sharp and he has halos around lights and such, but doesn't need glasses. My mother in law was going to have it done but had to have some cataract surgery done beforehand and they screwed that up and is now essentially blind in one eye, going to get a big settlement out of the doctor when the lawyers get through with them.

These are the only examples I know of. Not exactly a ringing endorsement of eye surgery of any kind. I'll stick to glasses and contacts.

Edited to add: "essentially" - she can't see anything out of the one eye but blurry shapes, plus the stuff about my friend.

Wife's uncle had it done, loves it. I'm very curious, because taking glasses on/off everytime you put or take off your helmet gets tedious. Plus I can't wear sunglasses.

My good friend and my brother-in-law both had this done. My friend has 20/20 vision and it has changed his outlook on life (har har har).

My brother-in-law had it done and needed to get to a certain vision status to pursue flight school. The docs told him that the chances of getting to where it needed to be were slim to none. He has 20/15 vision in both eyes now.

I have not personally heard of anyone having experiences like the Mayor mentioned.

I had it done 6 years ago and am still 20/15 in both eyes. I was only -2.5 in each eye, so only mildly near-sighted. If you are significantly myopic, then you may not get a full correction and still need to wear lenses---therefore not worth it, in my mind. Needless to say, I've been very pleased with it.

I worked 12 hours the next day, but I had to---if you can take a day or two off, it's probably not a bad idea, but not mandatory (based on my experience).

I had it about 5-6 years ago. Went from near blind, unable to correct for astigmatism with contacts to better than 20-20. The improvement was instanteous although it continues to improve for a few weeks after the surgery.

I took the day off to rest but I was in a bar drinking later that day. Probably an awful idea but it was St. Patricks Day and my best friend called to say he was in town.

I'd love to have this done. But probably never will due to fear of scarry results and/or long-term problems. I hate wearing my glasses and need a new pair. blah blah blah....

I am set up for friday morning, 0730, so I should be up for drinking Friday night, right...lol. I'll keep you informed of my progress. It is going to run me 1650 for both eyes, plus one year of follow up visits

well, I didn't know if you meant scarry...as in the surgery creating scars (i.e., blindness). Thanks for the...uh...clarification.

I would like to have this done, but with a -9.5 prescription in one eye and -11 in the other, I'm a poor candidate.

Geez, jefe. Can you look at both sideview mirrors in your car at the same time? :)

does insurance cover any of it? i think i'm content with glasses. i only need them for distance anyway, so i rarely wear them at work or home.

I'm actually outside of the prescription range for many of the leading contact lens brands. Luckily my lenses of choice, Acuvue 2, go up to -12. It'll suck if I get to the point where I have to return to my (very) thick glasses. :(
