There, I said it.

I can't think of a band who has a better or more consistent catalog of material, except for maybe the Beatles

Next on the list is Weller's Wild Wood. I'm wondering though, is Style Council a path to sheer disappointment?

Then again, they might not have.

You know, either/or.

Yes - one of the best bands evah and yes, Style council is mildly disappointing -

Listening to the Jam right now and thinking - no pun intended - they still sound as fresh today as they did years ago.

I'm really hard pressed to find any band that released 6 albums this good.

what is Compact Snap? Is that the collection of stuff they never released that ends up on the boxed set? Damn, I need to track that down somehow.

Nah, just the first of like a thousand hits compilations - it's pretty poor quality - I'm gonna guess I picked it up like in 86 or there abouts...

Ok cool...I thought there was some unreleased stuff on there.

I'm not gonna say you'll like the Style Council, but I love 'em. At their best, I like 'em even more than I like the Jam, perhaps because there are so many other bands that will scratch the same itch for me as the Jam does. Paul Weller solo though is a major disappointment.

I think Radcliffe described it best in his review of Dumpjack's mix

Radcliffe Wrote:
I'm not very interested in his solo work, because it always sounds like this song. Professional, uninspired, and grimly humorless. It also reminds me of the sort of '70s music I always hated (and that the Jam once promised to rescue us from).

If you're not already down with the Council, be careful. Some of the production is so god-awfully dated, whereas the Jam stuff survives pretty well. Shame, too, because there are some great songs there.
