i'm looking for a poem of his called the things you need for painting. it's in his ultramarine collection, the only book i don't have. any chance someone could pm the poem to me? i don't remember it being very long.

i swear i almost name checked you in my original post.

i found someone who did have the poem in question. went to the library and took out murukami's after the quake. i think you mentioned him before. they didn't have the b.a.s.s. 2006 in but i'll pick it up next trip.

we do seem to have very similar tastes.

from what i hear, his novels aren't as strong as his short stories. i'm starting with the stories and may tackle a novel or two afterwards.

THE PALETTE:

Flake white Rose madder
Chrome yellow Colbalt blue
Naples yellow Ulramarine blue
Yellow ocher Emerald green
Raw umber Ivory black
Venetian red Raw sienna
French vermilion Viridian green
Madder lake White lead

DON'T FORGET:
Palette knife
Scraping knife
Essence of turpentine

BRUSHES?
Pointed marten-hair brushes
Flat hog-hair brushes

Indifference to everything except your canvas.
The ability to work like a locomotive.
An iron will.

So, is this entirely a found poem, drawn directly from Renoir's letter? Or is the final stanza Carver's?
