I've seen the Stones in the past decade, and while they do produce a glorious sound still, and Mick is amazingly still close to what you think of as "Mick", they seemed like an oldies act.

I saw the Who last night in San Jose. They played at least 4-5 songs from their new album. The new songs were good... good enough to make me think to get it. It made the "oldies" that much more urgent it seemed.

Dylan... still PRODUCING something real and new.

Just ruminations from an old man about old men and what distinguishes holding ground and blazing trails. Rust and burn.

Maximum R & B.

Most here (and elsewhere) have bashed the new Who album, harry, but it's definitely worth a listen. The keeper-to-crap ratio is about 50-50. But there are definitely a handful of good songs, including a couple of really good songs, on the new album. Glad to hear they brought it live. Man, I wish The Ox was still with us...

Good to hear. I'm seeing them next week.

I like 4 or 5 songs on the new album. The rest is pretty forgettable. Hopefully those are the 5 new songs they're playing on this tour.

Hence the reference to "rust", which, of course, never sleeps.

I kinda hated Prairie Wind until I saw the movie... but def he is still producing something real... not resting on his considerable laurels.

The Ox... nothing can replace him. The greatest underacknowledged great.

Who: "The Good's Gone"

Better than anything the Stones ever did. Better than anything just about any other band/act ever did.

Stones: album after album of solid gold, more so than any other band/act.

Call 'em oldies if you want, I dig "oldies".

There's never been any competition here for me, although maybe the Who are better live now and producing better new stuff.

Neil Young is mof def the most vibrant and currently relevant of the bunch. "Prairie Wind" (the film) shows him up as simultaneously strandling: warm country ballads, mushy husband/dad, and seriously pissed-off relevant protest singer. I love it.
