Great book. The only book I needed two bookmarks to read.

I just finished Under the banner of Heaven by Jon Krakauer.

now: Cold Mountain by Charles Frazier.

As to my reading,

just finished John Feinstein's The Punch.

Next up,

the curious incident of the dog in the night-time.

Indeed, then, Barnes n' Nobley is my new lending-library. I never buy any (books) there, I just read them in the comfortable chairs, over a few weeks and a handful of visits, and that's all. Sometimes, I even return the books to their shelves, instead of just tossing them off to the side of the davenport.

I am sure an old friend, long since dropped by the wayside by me -- and vice versa, as regards him to me --, though, is prone to stealing from the BN at which he works (or did work).

See, the friends I did have were thieving bitches. And not anything like Napster-using, file-sharing, single-song-swipers, but honest-to-Got thieves, actually manually grifting things from store shelves... Of course, only to perpetuate-reinvigorate la revolucion against the acquisitive, pig-headed capitalist kakacracy. Never mind that they were being hyper-acquisitive in their own right, so kind of hep themselves to (their) personal property rights, and ownership. But, at least they were doing so from the left, not the right.

Yeah...

I forgot. In addition to the previous book I mentioned I'm also reading Catch-22 for the 97th time.

Me too.

How do you like it? Do you find yourself relating to the people written about..b/c this could just as easily have been written about UGA fans or any other SEC school (save Vandy ;) )

I liked the intro, but the first few chapters are dragging, maybe because it's more about mundane shit than actual crazy fans?

I'm only about 30 pages into it, but so far so good. I figured at least one of you SEC guys would have read this one.

a) The Architecture of Country Houses - AJ Downing
b) Some tattered '20s scientific encyclopedia found at a Yard Sale

I'm reading neither, just appreciating the illustrations and engravings.

I'm about halfway through One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest by Ken Kesey.

Then i'll be starting a book called Dark Star Safari which is a non-fiction travelogue type book about a trip through Africa by someone named Paul Theroux. It's for a book club I've been asked to join. This will be my first attempt so I'm not sure if I'll like the whole club idea.

Queen of Hearts-Charlotte Haldane

It's a 35 yr old bio of a French Queen from the 1500's. Marguerite of Navarre nee Valois, sister of a King, daughter of Catherine de Medici, and wife of another King. And the subject of Alexandre Dumas's Queen Margot which was turned into a film in the mid 90's starring Isabelle Adjani.

Interesting read. The history of the St. Bartholomew's Day Massacre was especially riveting. Her mother and brother engineered the slaughter of 100's of Huguenots that were in town for Margot's wedding a couple days prior.

Susanna Clarke -- Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell.

I noticed that dnorwood is reading this also and wanted to pipe in and say that it continues to get better (keep reading~!). I am not much farther than you in the book. I am just starting the section about Jonathan Strange, around 1/4 through the book. It is really holding my interest as I was hoping that it wouldn't be just a Harry Potter book more for adults.

For anyone who likes Period Fiction. This is a really nice read.

Yeah, I know I'll totally get into it, but I'm trying to hold back for now! I've got a book coming in from the library in the next day or two, and unfortunately, I'll only have that book for 3 weeks (it is no doubt being held by someone else, so I won't be able to extend my checkout period).

I totally dig how they footnote references written by characters in the book! I haven't even gotten to the Jonathan Strange part yet... I'm still on the Gentlemen Magicians gathering at York Cathedral!

I'm also finally reading Confederacy of Dunces.

When he begins working at the office and throws all of the filing away... that's some efficiency expertise. I've seen my future.
