These seem pretty cool if you want to turn your records into CDs or MP3s.

Here's one place you can get 'em. And I guess Circuit City has them, too.

One of the main complaints is that they're pretty plasticky cheesy, but... Image

weird....I just bought one tonight. Having pc issues with it though. Don't think its the component itself, but rather my ghetto ass pc. I'll give a review when it comes alive. It works with Audacity btw. It is plasticy but the arm and all is metal. Nice little package.

what's also weird is that yesterday I almost posted a thread about this exact thing. But, when I was looking at it it didn't seem to have very good "reviews".

but they say you can transfer any type of vinyl.

Why not just buy a "real" turntable and buy the connections necessary for the computer, or do it the way I do it and buy a CD recorder? That way you're not limited to mp3s, and you have a decent turntable for your system.

Do you have the TT connected directly into the burner, or is it running thru the stereo?

My house is so shaky, there's no place I can put a TT w/out massive feedback when the volume's up.

sounds to me like your turntable isn't gournded, not your house.

I don't think so... when I walk by it, it vibrates, and if it's (the volume) up high enough, the sound just builds on itself and will blow something up if I don't turn it down.

And if I slam the door, it's my search function.

To do that right (i.e. to capture the sound at a definition that justifies the extra expense), you'd have to pay probably $200 more for your soundcard, to get something that didn't have just a 1/8" analog input.

Yup, and it is hooked up to the stereo.

Sounds to me like you may have 2 issues at work here. The shaky house issue is obviously an isolation problem. Best way (and the ONLY way I've found) to cure that is a wall-mounted bracket for the TT.

The distortion at volume issue sounds more like a set-up problem- in other words, check the cartridge alignment with an installation protractor, then readjust the tracking force and anti-skate to the manufacturer's recommendations.

Or you may just have a seriously POS TT.

I do have it mounted on the wall.

And it's not distortion, it's TT feedback. It's a good TT (Technics).

You know, I really don't care. It works fine if I keep the volume down.

Can we just drop this? Thanks. 8)

Both my turntable and CD recorder are attached to a preamp. I record what I want to from vinyl (or cassette or any other source) onto a CD-RW and then rip it (into whatever format I want) using my computer CD-ROM drive. It takes some extra work, but I can that way use .wav files for comps, which I often do.
