Unemployed since May, fucking sucks. I keep going to interviews, getting verbals, but then, something fizzles along the way before the paperwork comes through.

I had a job lined up when I quit my last one, but that fizzled, too.

i recently got a new job, but realized that it in no shape or form is for me. too bad that I had to wait until i actually got the job to really realize what it is all about. so, i'm still actively looking. but obviously, I'm fortunate to have a gig going on right now. hope things turn around for everyone.

I likely will be unemployed anywhere from 6 months to 2 years from now - the company(Western Wireless) merged with Alltel at the beginning of the month and as my position is redundant it will be elimnated somewhere in that time period - but we will likely assist in a billing system conversion which is why the timeline is up in the air.....the good news is that I will get 8 months worth of my salary for severance....and thus if I get into a new job quickly enough could end up being a-okay :)

I am.

I wanted to "find myself".

Then I got lazy.

I've started looking again though.

Nothing is more alien to the present age than idleness. If we think of resting from our labours, it is only in order to return to them.

In thinking so highly of work we are aberrant. Few other cultures have ever done so. For nearly all of history and all prehistory, work was an indignity.

Among Christians, only Protestants have ever believed that work smacks of salvation; the work and prayer of medieval Christendom were interspersed with festivals. The ancient Greeks sought salvation in philsophy, the Indians in meditation, the Chinese in poetry and the love of nature. The pygmies of the African rainfirests work only to meet the need of the day, and spend most of their lives idling.

Progress condemns idleness. The work needed to deliver humanity is vast. Indeed it is limitless, since as one plateau of achievement is reached another looms up. Of course this is only a mirage; but the worst of progress is not that it is an illusion. It is that it is endless.

For the ancients, unending labour was the mark of a slave. The labours of Sisyphus are a punishment. In working for progress we submit to a labour no less servile.

John Gray

From HR: "I am very sorry to have to inform you all that I have been notified that the deadline for notification of those at risk of redundancy has been extended to Friday 4th February."

That's a "maybe."

heh Oh I found myself. And I think I'm stuck with what I found for a long time, which is too bad because I'd much rather look for myself again than a job.

man, i don't know how you've dealt with the uncertainty of that company for so long. if you were found redundant, would you have to come home?

<---- unemployed but by choice. I'd need something extremely flexable. My school schedule is pretty erractic basically there's a 12 hour window mon-sat in which I could have class & it's never the same 2 weeks in a row. Sometimes I won't have class, other days I'll have 2 classes 7 hours apart. Then there's production period, in which I've had 17 hour days & 60 hour weeks.
