I want this...

Quote:
The Clash to release singles box set
And there will be rare stuff on it

All 19 UK singles by The Clash are to be released in a boxed set with original artwork.

The seven inch Singles Box, out October 30, will be true to the originals - including replica sleeves and labels - with the addition of the never commercially available NME giveaway 'Capital Radio EP'.

The collection will include numerous bonus tracks, six of which have never previously been available on CD, from 12", non-UK B-Sides and promos.

The CDs will be packaged in 7" style sleeves and vinyl reproduction CDs.

The package will also include a 44-Page booklet with extensive sleevenotes, unseen and rare photos and memorabilia.

The sleevenotes include contributions from Mike D, The Edge, Bobby Gillespie, Irvine Welsh, Steve Jones and Damon Albarn among others.

Meh, I've already got 'em all save the NME deal, and I'm not buying a box set in order to get a repro of that.

Anyone out there who doesn't have a copy of the b-side "1 2 Crush On You" should buy this, though.

Isn't that the same version on Super Black Market Clash?

I'd love to make sure I had all the songs covered here, but my jones for package-heavy reissues has dried up and quietly died.

Probably, I thought the re-issues captured all the b-sides, all the more reason this box set is nothing special.

I doubt I'll get it...mostly because the packaging, while amazingly cool, will make it a pain to actually play. I mean it's what 3 discs of music or so on 19 CDs you gotta mess with? Add that I've got most all of it between vinyl or CD anyway...and I can't see myself forking out the cash. Maybe I'd beg my wife for it as an Xmas gift though...hmmm...

Good to see Bankrobber get a roll out. They cut that from the Vinyl Black Market Clash when they did the Super Black Market Clash CD..along with Armagideon Time as well, substituting dub versions for both I believe...a packaging decision that I will never forgive. I mean, if you're gonna expand a release, at least keep the damn songs that were on it in the first place and work from there.

I see it no differently than buying 7"s, or even vinyl for that matter.

True with the 7" thing....but, personally, I wouldn't buy 19 7"s from the same band either. If I like a band enough to buy that much stuff, I want full releases, not just the singeles and I'm not obsessive about collecting to have to scour 7"s for obscure B-sides and such. Not sure I agree on the vinyl being just as awkward if it's LPs...more than one or two songs on a record.

Thing's just more of a collector's item than anything else, and I buy stuff to listen to not look at. If you dig collectable's and dig the Clash, it's probably about the best thing they could have released. It's just not gonna do much for me, even though they're one of my favorite bands.

Picked this up from the post office this afternoon and was giddy like Christmas.
Packaging is exquisite and very much in line with the band's image and style.
Listening to Disc 1 (White Riot b/w 1977) right now.

I'll be pretty much useless for the rest of the afternoon.

I may be buying this for someone as a Christmas gift, which means it will be extremely hard for me not to open and play with it before giving it. Goddamn self control.
