I bought Caetano Veloso - Velo after putting down the new Juana Molina album.

This Veloso album is pretty meh. The production is the epitome of 1980's sheen (makes sense since it's a 1989 release – sounds like a Steve Windwood record of the same era), and I've been hearing nothing but great things about the Molina record.

I HATE it what this happens. I don't buy enough to be able to make these kinds of mistakes.

:(

What happened? Was this the only Veloso they had and you were hellbent on buying something from him?

I'd venture that while there are a few standouts, most of his albums from the 80's, 90's and 00's are forgettable.

If it makes you feel better, I think Juana Molina is pretty meh as well.

It was the only one they had in stock that I did not own.
And I did have another choice in my hand, as well... a Best of Roy Wood, 2-disc collection that I wish I had purchased instead. The kicker with that one was that I already had 6 or 7 of the songs in that collection, and none of the songs on Velo, so I thought I would spend halp the cash and get a colleciton that was entirely new to me. Damn.

There are some good songs on the Veloso, but the production damn near ruins them.

There will be a band with this name at SXSW within the next two years.
