I get a kick outta people who say shit like "that's my daughter's name in Chinese", because Chinese-to-English translations of names are mostly based on sound rather than meaning. So a name like, oh, Nugene, for example, would be translated by finding the Chinese characters that most closely resemble the corresponding tones "noo" and "gene" (and there's four tones for every character, with each tone having an entirely different definition). So, depending on the tone used when pronounced, the resulting characters could mean anything from "God of Thunder" to "Ass Gristle" (but it'll sorta sound like "Noo-gene").
