Iranian newspapers Kehyan and and Resalat have urged Muslims around the world to prepare for a 'great war' to destroy the State of Israel.

The newspapers published the editorials, translated from Persian by MEMRI , the Middle East translation service, to mark 'Quds' day on October 20, an Iranian 'holiday' calling for the "liberation" of Jerusalem and war against Israel.

I've got a major issue with U.S. policy on Israel as it is, it would take a helluva a lot more than a threat thats been in the air since the 1950's to make me want to nuke Iran. Also, did you know there is a viable and rather affluent Jewish population in Iran?

But either way, I think the UN should grow a pair, so yeah, no bombing Iran because I feel like destablizing something we've already had our hand in for a little too long is a bad idea.

Can you read Persian? How accurate is the translation?

How is Yakov Lappin? What is the background to MEMRI?

I have no doubt that the report is accurate. Their prime minister has already publically stated that the holocaust was a "hoax" and that Israel "needs to be wiped off the map".

This isnt our business, to be honest.

Israel developed its own nuclear weapons decades ago because they had the foresight to see that this would happen eventually. It was a deterrent before a deterrent was necessary (although there was a legitimate fear that the Soviets might put nukes in Syria or Egypt but i digress).

The other factor that has been alluded to is the internal situation in Iran: I don't think John Q. Citizen in the (relatively) affluent Iranian middle class is gonna put up with this shit much longer.

If Israel ever plans to do something that massive they better be prepared to do it to every muslm country in the region, or else they are just going to get rocked. There's nothing more uniting than making one of your countries a steaming crater.
