I've been bouncing around some ideas for a new podcast on Hip-D to go along with "The BlooGAR Show" and the various "Mixers" and "Sixers," but it wasn't until last night that the right one finally lodged itself squarely in my medulla oblongotta. I probably won't get a chance to record the first one until after I move into the new house next week, but here's the concept:

"FRACSPLOITATION"

FT features '60s & '70s Funk and Soul tunes you have probably never heard (unless you're billy g, of course) by artists you may or may not know about. This will be much heavier into stuff like Stax than Motown, so don't expect "Big Chill" hits galore. I love this stuff, and truly believe if you are exposed to it, many of you will also come to love this stuff.

So, be on the lookout for this in the weeks to come, as I plan on trying to do at least a couple of these a month.

I support this idea.

Make it happen FT.

I really need to make a profile on Hip D.

Ben, you would be a most welcome addition to my otherwise deadbeat staff. Anytime you're ready, just let me know, brother.

Yeah, my objective here is to school you young 'uns on what THEM music used to be like back when it was still good, before it degenerated into all the rap/hip-hop crap it's become today. Not to say I hate all rap/hip-hop, because there is definitely some great stuff to be found out there, but splicing samples and shit just isn't the same as the type of genuine musical craftsmanship that used to go into these lost funk and soul classics.

Yes, I am grumpy old man. Now sit down, shut up and listen.

Turns out you got the year right, McBaldy. In order to accommodate the upcoming Top 20, I have decided to debut "FRACSPLOITATION" at the start of the new year. Plus, moving into this house has been an even bigger taser to my nutsack than I had originally expected.

But mark my words, THIS PODCAST WILL HAPPEN.

First things first. Let's end 2006 on a high note by getting your Top 20 list to me ASAP.

On a completely unrelated note, I was nosing around on flickr last night and ran into your pic of me and the chica from SXSW.
I gotta get to Austin soon.

Not that this is any great selling point or anything, but there is the added bonus of getting to hear what FT actually sounds like, not to mention the hilarity that ensues when he clumsily tries to read his own copy!

I'll check this out (and maybe cut up some of the audio for future ribbing) later.
