is there a new album soon? i'd love to see them again. i was sick (probably shouldn't've been out of the house) the only time i saw them and everyone i was with raved about it, but i was just looking for medicine. that show was also in a round room. i doubt i'll ever see that again.

I haven't heard anything about a new album, and Joel Peterson who plays Bass for The Faint is producing an album for a new band fronted by Orenda Fink. The Good Life is also playing some shows here at the end of December, I just think they are both testing out new material.

Yeah, I heard rumours Ratatat was going to play the Omaha gig I'm attending, but it was a big lie

What's the date on this one? I'm still looking for a 12/8 event over that way.

If the above dates are right, they are playing at the Vault in long beach 12/8 which is a good, albeit very expensive (think $8 beers) venue assuming you have transportation to get there. I'm not much of a fan of the Faint though.

Other 12/8 options:

Michael Penn at Largo
Ian McLagan (Small Faces/Faces) at The Mint

They're giving away tickets to the one in San Diego. Not sure why they can't sell them.

My review of last nights show:

Fourth of July played first. They are a Lawrence, KS based band featuring a member or members of The Anniversary. They were really good live. On record, they sort of sounded like Bright Eyes, live they sort of sounded like a mix of Norfolk&Western and The National.

Tilly and The Wall played next. I hadn't seen them live since they released their last album, so it was interesting to hear some of that played live, but I wasn't really impressed with it. Their old stuff is good, but I've seen them play it enough times.

The Faint always impresses me live and I thought their show was outstanding. They played four new songs, three of which were very good. The slower ballad-type song wasn't that great. It was crazy watching all the kids below us bouncing aroung and the constant wave of movement in the crowd. We had an excellent spot from the balcony level rail that allowed us to peer right down at the stage.

What's the vibe on their new ones? They had an article in URB awhile back saying they were sick of their sound and needed new direction.

Well...the predominant rumor is that they signed to American Recordings and are going to work with Rick Rubin, which could yield interesting or disastrous results.

I had heard the Rick Rubin rumor last spring, and that he was suppose to move to Omaha temporarily to work on this album, but I'm pretty sure they are sticking with Saddle Creek or are atleast going to record this at Mike Mogis's new studio in Omaha that is within his fancy house.
The only thing I noticed was a bit more guitar that was more raw and natural rather than distorted or techy on one or two of the new songs. I know the Depose, the guitarist for the band has been doing some solo material that is more metal, but I didn't really hear anything drastically different in their new material. I'd just venture to guess that they would go for a more natural not as techy dance/rock album.
