A guy at work just handed me the new Enigma CD and told me I have to hear it. Should I rip it to my hard drive and give it a serious listen on headphones, or just pretend I listened a few hours from now when he retrieves the disc from me? The last time I heard anything from Enigma was prolly 1990 when their first album dropped. I was 16 and not into electronica/trance/whatever this was characterized as back then. More open to this kinda music these days, but I would rather waste time getting your opinions than waste time listening to something that could monumentally suck. The album is called A Posteriori which, if memory serves, translates into, rememberance. If that's even a word. Thoughts, you musical geniuses.

I still think Cretu is a talented dude and The Screen Behind the Mirror is one of my favorite albums ever, but the latest album is really bad. Cretu tried a completely new sound on it, and while many people might find it refreshing, there are only about 1 or 2 memorable songs on it. He's suddenly gone into Tangerine Dream/Jarre mode, and it's pretty obvious after listening to the album for 10 minutes that he's not very good at it.

He needs to stick to pop music because that's where his real strength lies.

What year is SBtM from, and where should I start with Enigma? I just threw their new one on, and while I wouldn't call it bad, it certainly has piqued my interest. Female vocals and fewer instrumentals would be refreshing from what I've heard thus far. If I remember correctly, there were some lame Gregorian-esque chants on their debut that sounded contrived, but that was 16 long years ago and from one video I saw. Whatever, since the voluminous number of releases in Sept/Oct, I'm starved for new shit, well, at least until those Wrens re-releases and that Voxtrot EP hits my mailbox.

SBtM was released in 2000. The reason why I singled out that album in particular is because it took the best elements of the first three albums and tightened up the songwriting big time. It also sound freakin' goddamn awesome with a good pair of headphones and really shows why Cretu is one of the best producers/mixers in the world.
