I might be going to the official launch party for the Wii at Times Square tonight.

Might.

Somehow my mother walked into EB Games and walked out with a PS3 for my brother. No waiting list, no line, no camping, nothing.

This is awesome.

Apparently, there were like 400 people waiting overnight in the rain for a PS3 at this nearby mall and around 5:30am they started to freak out and "overwhelmed" mall security who then called the cops and 12 cruisers showed up.

edit: oh, and someone got shot in CT waiting outside a best buy or something.

Did you buy a game? Or you just talking about the sports game? I may buy one.

My wife was on line with all the other idiots this morning at 6:30...but she was able to score a Wii. If she had gotten there 15 minutes later she would have been screwed, though.

My son has no idea we got one; he'll be psyched at Hanukkah.

Yes. Inquiring minds want to know which games you got.

The controls were a bit tricky for me, but after a few tennis matches, I think I got the hang of it. I love shaking my fists in disappointment, and watching my player swing his tennis rackets around.

This is fun. I'll be saving Zelda for later, though.

My main concern with the Wii:

Do i have to hold my fucking arms out when i play? That sounds like exercise. I wanna, like, lay a controller on my tummy and lay down and listen to the new Snoop.

i think it's different for every game. however, i do recommend pausing the game before you pick your nose.

I have the luxury of a Nintendo fanboy brother, so I get to play a lot of games right as the systems come out, but don't have to hassle myself with buying anything right away.

So far... Zelda, Excite Truck, Red Steel and Rayman. Red Steel is pretty meh. Nowhere near the best first person shooter I've ever played, but a lot of that could have to do with how much I suck with the nunchuck. I will get better at Excite Truck. I've only seen Zelda being played and Rayman is sweet.

a buddy of mine bought 2 PS3s last night when they popped up on Amazon at $530 a pop. he was freaking out like he'd just won the lottery.
I don't really play any of the video games anymore, except for an occasional wasted game of NBA live 2005 and the nintendo classics disc. I just bought Mega Mans I-XI for like ten bucks and I'm surprisingly excited.

you're going to just hold onto it until then?! you must have amazing restraint. people i know had all-night marathons once they got home and tore the box open.

Being an adult is awesome. I remember when $250 was just an unfathomable amount of money.

Now I get that feeling when I get a $1,690 electricity bill (Hey kids, don't wait 13 months to turn in those readings!)

I couldn't believe the price of the PS3 when I read it. I can't imagine any parent spending that much on a video game system for their kid. Especially once you add in the cost of additional controllers, memory cards, and the games.

I distinctly remember when the new Atari 2600 game systems came out in the mid-80's. People thought that $99 each plus another $15-20 for new cartridges was craaaaaaazy. Being the sheep that they are though, most people bought them immediately anyways so I am not surprised at all.

Never underestimate the power of the latest bling.

I got one yesterday, and the movement stuff is fairly intensive. You do have to move around the controller quite a bit. Then again, you do have drummer arms, so it shouldn't be all that bad...

On the other hand, I can see this quickly ruining my sex life, in more ways than one. Like Carlos Zambrano style...

Apparently, running a system update on my Wii screwed it up, and now I can't connect to the internet. I'm still unclear what the problem is. Either I bought a defective one, or it became defective during the update. Either way, Nintendo is shipping replacement Wiis, so check if your WiFi is working or not.

Info at Nintendo Forums.
