Yeah, they are bashing this deal pretty hardcore.
The dude is 31, strikes out a bunch and has a low onbase percentage. He's going to leadoff for the Cubs.
His only upside is that he can smash the ball and will be playing in a homerun friendly ballpark.
They should have went after better pitching first.

Everybody bashed the Pedro deal as well and he hasn't produced enough to warrant that contract either. However, at the time it sent a message around baseball and to other free agents that the Mets were going to compete. I think this deal is similar except the Cubs will probably get way more production out of Soriano than the Mets ever will out of Pedro. And one bad contract is gonna kill an organization. It's when you go Peter Angelos and sign them in bunches that it becomes a problem.

Not to mention if he can hit 40 homeruns in RFK, my god he should be able to hit at least 50 in Wrigley. It's not unrealistic to believe you have 120 homeruns between Soriano, Lee, and Ramirez.

And isn't the Luxury tax around 150 mil this year? If so the Cubs still have alot of room.
