Damn Kyle that's awesome. It's always nice to have options, even if you don't go. Plus it is just cool as hell that you turned that whole past job thing around into a bad-ass opportunity.

That said, I've gotta hand down the dissenting view -- nothing can fuck up a good relationship like time and space. Not being there is pretty huge, and I know from experience. Think about this reeeel good. I wouldn't do it without a solid plan to reunite SOON.

No word from the company yet, btw. I'm guessing my guy was out for Thanksgiving or something. Meanwhile the nail-biting continues.

Take it from me, mang. BAAAD time of year to be looking for dat work. I would call him back on Monday afternoon, if you haven't heard from him, tho.

Wait, so if you take this, when would be the earliest point at which you and the lady would live in the same city again?

Depends on a lot of things. The foreseeable timeline:

This March - Her store opens here.
This May - I'd move out there, start working.
...
?

If her store does well the first year, she can think about opening one out in Boston. Or she can sell it and do something different out there. Or I can move back and find a job in Madison again after some top-shelf experience. Or I can get transfered to a completely different city/country, and she can move with me.

Lotta variables. But probably a year at least I'd think. And of course if it isn't working, there are options. Marriage first, work second.

It's not you're getting deployed to Iraq, but this would suck some serious cock, Cap.

I take it a solution as simple as:
If you get the job, she opens the flagship in Boston

isn't feasible.

The loans and supplier relationships are here. And the loans were NOT easy to get, easily the most difficult part of the entire process ('bout 600k). She'd have 90% of the work to do over again, as well as be defaulting on a lot of agreements here. This one's in the perfect location for it - the spot started the whole process, when she saw it for sale.

I don't look forward to it, but we're both very good about being honest with each other. We dealt with it well this summer. And she's going to be neck-deep in that store the whole next year anyway, as would I at a new job anywhere. Plus, if I'm honest, I got kicked in the nuts pretty damn hard by that last job, and I want the biggest turnaround I can get. It's petty, in a way. Deep down, part of me wants to establish beyond a doubt the fact that I shouldn't have been thrown away like that. It's not the biggest reason, but it's in there. I want a REALLY good job (to me, not just salary or some bullshit), not just a good job.
