The Bends, hands down. This album slays like no other 'alternative' album ever will.

Hmmm...the selection criteria is rather limited.

You are free to post whichever inferior album you think should win.

Thanks for the support, rads.

I may have to confer with Konstantin as to the social aspect of having this thread in existence.

PS -- I love The Bends too.

yeah, I group that type of rock (i.e. 'rawk') into a different category. this is rock that you can sing along with.

Cliche but I'll say:

Nirvana - Nevermind
Metallica - Metallica

Both albums have become so maligned that will probably never be viewed subjectively. All the songs are great on both of those and the craft that was put into them was second to none.

Has anyone caught VH1's "Nevermind" Classic Album episode? Watching Butch Vig sit at the sound board and play all the seperate recorded parts of different songs was a real eye opener to the musicianship that went into that record.

Probably:

1) Beastie Boys - Check Your Head

followed up with

2) Slint - Spiderland
3) Shellac - At Action Park
4) Faith No More - Angel Dust

The Bends doesn't even make my top 100.

Great call. Great fucking album.

As far as mainstream rock, nothing hits it harder than Vs.

Yeah, I could easily go with this one too. And Superunknown for that matter.

One of my most vivid memories was seeing Soundgarden on the Badmotorfinger tour at the Riv open with "Searching with My Good Eye Closed". The band played the intro from the cd as they were coming onto the stage with the lights down. Suddenly, when they get to "the devil says" this massive wave of noise and electricity hits the crowd and it's just euphoria for the next 90 minutes or so.
