I killed a little old lady for a thirty dollar DVD player. I witnessed the herd make its way into the opened doors at 5 AM. I saw a shooting star (!). I got marginally good deals on a few DVDs. It was all worth it for the experience, though.

Plus, someone wrote "My voices told me to!!" on a mini etch-a-sketch in the toy department. I had to buy it. Luckily, it was under two dollars.

Most importantly... I survived.

Black Friday = day after Thanksgiving where all retail stores have major discounts. Some places opened at midnight, most others at 5am.

Mike and I considered going to Circuit City to buy a $99 laptop. Then, I slapped some sense into him.

Having worked retail on a Black Friday in a past life further instilled the good sense to not parcipate. People get ugly...no, make that uglier.

It was... insanity. And that's just a small town in Vermont. I know why I have never done this before and will never do it again.

So, you're an ascetic? No money, no home... Just the clothes on your back & food when you can bum it off somebody, or have a little walking-around found money & can buy the food?

Otherwise, shut up.

Whoever started calling this day, "Black Friday" needs to hit over the head repeatedly with a 2x4.

It's called that because after three hours of standing in line in the middle of the night that is the color of your appendages.

I hung out with some friends until about 2am and then went home to sleep because I wanted to purchase nothing.

Why can't the have Black Friday in the summer time?

Stacey, sorry I didn't respond to your text which woke me up at 5 IN THE EFFING MORNING!

I agree with Finch. The idea of spending all hours of day or night to stampede shopping malls to make sure you comsume at optimal effectiveness is absurd. Just because you're not a homeless begger; it doesn't mean you can't see how wrong headed the crass commercialism of our culture is.

It'd be different if people were getting trampled as soon as the doors open but it's not like people are dying like at an old school pearl jam concert.

Do I think it's silly to stay up all night for some random item, sure. I doubt I would ever do it. However, my friend wanted a plasma tv and if he had gotten the voucher and to the line in time he'd have gotten it for 1300 dollars off the price. To me, it's more of a statement of how ridiculous it is that a store can afford to sell a tv at almost half off and still "make ends meet".

People are rude and selfish whether they are in line at 4am or whether they are driving down the road. At least, if we want to, we are free to stand in line and buy whatever the hell we want in this country.

produce...consume...lather, rinse, repeat...

Sorry...I agree that's crap.

I need more...and it don't have dollar signs attached to it.

In other words...no matter how big your TV is...it's just a fuckin' tv.

actually I wrote before I saw you mentioned a TV...just tossing out a random product there...so if that's what threw you...oops

otherwise...just a little comment on the absurdity of our culture of gross consumerism where the most highly valued ideals are producing goods for sale at a profit or the ability to greedily scarf up what is on offer..and the unthinking herd mentality that goes along with it

thanks. It didn't "throw" me per se, but I did just assume you were responding to my mention of the TV purchase. I get it now.
