Boarders have expressed concern to me that threads like "The Official 2006 Adult Video Of the Year Thread" make Obner look too much like an unsavory site and increase the risk of future squirrglings.* We haven't moderated porn-related threads in the past, but they've been more frequent lately, and it's worth asking whether this is a legitimate use of Obner (particularly given the wide range of other fora for porn afficionados).

Please vote on whether you think porn threads should be banned. This would apply only to threads whose title/primary purpose is porn-related, not to threads in which porn happens to be mentioned.

No, I'm not just doing this because I don't like Dalen.

* To be "squirrgled" is to lose one's job because of one's use of Obner.

but then we get into you having to decide the meaning of porn and all that. how about we ban images of genitals? it's a little more specific.

I'm indifferent, but I can see how they might be a problem for some.

Maybe come up with a new Message Icon to be used when posting about pron. A flashing erect arrow, or something.

There are different problems at issue. The concern with porn-related thread titles is that the topic list page will be more likely to get picked up by keyword filters, creating a risk even if you have images off or don't click NSFW threads.

so. If banning is too outrageous an idea for some on here, would it help solve anything if there was a specific forum designated for the Obnerverts?

again, this idea comes up, and it seems to be the best.

Truly, there is no fun without porn.

The problem with a separate forum is that if it's just for porn threads, then Obner (or a portion of it) becomes "about" porn (and if that happens, someone else can take over as administrator, because I'm not running a porn message board). The alternative is to make an "off-topic" forum, which nobody wants.

I can't tell if you're being sarcastic, but that's exactly right. From the beginning, Obner and its rules have been designed to make it as safe as possible for people to browse from work. Since there are a million porn sites on the Internet, I don't really see why it's worth jeopardizing that so that 4 people can talk about the porn videos they rent.

I'm sure that there's some kind of ATLspeak that the Senator and company can teach us to confound the filters.

Or just spell like a drunk Mark Clark.

as usual, things are more complicated than they seem.

i guess i don't understand the need for this kind of content here. maybe someone should set up a seperate site, a la hip-d or add it as a feature to tune a day.

in the meantime i remain mystified and just stay away.

edit: ya know, fuckit. if the moderators deem something inappropriate, vulgar and tasteless ban it. you're the moderators and most of us are cool with your judgement most of the time. if people leave because there are no tits and ass and shit and blood and vomit, fuck 'em. i'm sick of tip toeing around like we're trying to write the goddamm constitution. there are thousands of other places to go and like i said if you want to make your own monkey fucking music site, do it.

I edited the title of the thread for you children.

Also, by putting NSFW in the thread title, you are drawing attention to it. It's better to put NSFW in the initial post itself, before the content, just like i did in that post.

Let's keep this board as boring as possible. Some of you are doing a great fucking job. YAAAAY!

Yeah, didn't we have a NSFW forum at one point? Why did it get removed again?

Whatever the reasoning behind that removal can be added to this argument.

yeah, well there are some that do. should we just stay quiet about it on precious ole Obner, and only talk about sports, politics, music, and your favorite fucking lunches?

i'm starting to think this is a church board.

if part of the board 'mission statement' is that it be viewable at work, then you guys should start banning a whole lot more stuff. i, for one, don't look at it from work unless i'm on my phone and taking a doodoo because i like my job and viewing it would certainly be grounds for dismissal.

again, NSFW automatically draws attention to it.

Because by concentrating a bunch of NSFW content in one forum, it makes it that much easier for a curious boss to find the smut, and it's not a great excuse to say "oh, I don't go to that part."

Haq's point seems to be that all the porn-talk leads to more spammers and more crap like that that we don't need, not so much that it makes the board unfit for viewing at work.

Though the argument that porn threads can easily offend a large portion of the boarders is also a good one.

I vote NO for porn/adult content on Obner. Take it elsewhere.

yeah, i do have to admit that i'd rather hear about somebody's fucking tuna melt on rye than look at brittney spears with 6 dicks in her mouth.

why not post this on tune a day? you'd get more hits and people would be exposed to some pretty good music.

why not on atad? because that is strictly a music site, on not a public forum where people can chat about everything from their boring lives to good music.

and guess what, i didn't post that Britney Spears image, nor did any Obner. if you have a problem with that, talk to your mods about spam, not any of us.
