Honestly, if you want to like it, this is the way to go. If I just had mp3s of the album, I probably would have given it one listen and written it off. But since I bought it and therefore was committed to spending a certain of time and effort on it, I've been enjoying it more and more. Naturally, ten minute epics are going to take a while to sink in.

Just bought this yesterday. It does take an effort. That gelfling sings weird.

Vinyl's $30 down the street. I should still buy it. Maybe then I'll appreciate the second half of the album.

I still don't like the second half as much as the first. That could just be because I have a hard time paying close attention after the first two songs.

I love how it ties into the lyrics of Emily.

Through various channels I somehow got it on my 'pod. Listened to it at work while I was doing some editing, and really got into the lyrics. If one thing sells it for me, it'd be the lyrics. It is now on my xmas list for probably the wife to pick up for me.

You're not the only one. More people like this album than the last one, but she still has a massive contigent of haters. Some think she's a retarded elf. Many hate her voice. A few are patronizing and vaguely sexist in their contempt, the way people dismissed Kate Bush as a "silly little girl playing dress-up" back in the 70's.

I think she's great, but then a couple of my other favorite albums this year are from Scott Walker and Tom Waits, whom many also hate.

I think its interesting how polarized people are to her. I also find it interesting how people who adore Bjork cannot stand JN. I draw the most parallel between those two artists between their style, and their knack for lyrical content.

Yeah, her lyrics are one of my biggest draws to her.

Off her last album, 'Clam, Crab, Cockle, Cowrie' is probably one of my favorite songs of all time. Nearly every line in that song is incredibly poetic. Hell, I'll post it here.

Clam, Crab, Cockle, Cowrie

That means no where I come from
I am cold, out waiting for the day to come
I chew my lips and I scratch my nose
Feels so good to be a rose

Oh don't, don't you lift me up
Like I'm that shy, no no no no no, just give it up

See, there are bats all dissolving in a row
Into the wishy-washy dark that can't let go

And I cannot let go
So I thank the lord
And I thank his sword
Though it be mincing up the morning, slightly bored

Oh oh oh, morning
Without warning
Like a hole
Oh, and I watch you go

There are some mornings when the sky looks like a road
There are some dragons who were built to have and hold
And some machines are dropped from great heights lovingly
And some great bellies ache with many bumblebees
And they sting so terribly

I do as I please
Now I'm on my knees
Your skin is something that I stir into my tea
And I am watching you
And you are starry, starry, starry

And I'm tumbling down and I check a frown
Well, just look around
That's why I love this town
To see me:
Serenaded hourly
Celebrated sourly
Dedicated dourly

Waltzing with the open sea
Clam, crab, cockle, cowrie...

Not the only one. Her voice gives me the willies. Can't get past it. Nope. nuh uh

In fact I actually yelled at my husband when he told me liked a couple songs off her last album. We like almost all the same music so I felt betrayed.

This sounds like something the Senator would make up to make fun of music like this.
