I never post…but… I gotta travel to Minneapolis for work. Does anyone know of any cool bars or pubs there? I’m only there for one night (Dec 7), so I really need to maximize the drinking time! For a reference to what area I’ll be in – I’m staying at the Graves 601 Hotel. Thanks!

The hipsters (not saying you are) like to go to the Uptown bar or the VFW for cheap beers and karaoke. The Dears are playing the Fine Line that night and The Ex are playing the Triple Rock Social Club. If you stay thru the 8th Joanna Newsom will be playing two shows at the 400 Bar. I'm not a drinker so my input is not the best for what bars to check out.

Ooooh, definitely go see The Dears.

West Hills? Damn, that's on my side of the Obner universe.

Crack, is it because your town already recognizes you as a drinker and need someplace new?

I'll be in Minneapolis next weekend to visit a few friends. Does anyone know of some cool record stores to check out?

cheapo (there are several locations, including a pretty huge one in uptown) is where it's at. or at least i never found a record store i liked better than that one in MSP, though some claim that the electric fetus is pretty good as well. Cheapo also has vinyl only locations, if that's your thing...

Right on.

All right, so you're staying at the Graves 601. That's a pretty swank hotel:

With a pretty swank restaurant/bar:

You are also one block from First Avenue:

...though I wouldn't go there for drinks. If you were looking to make a decent bar crawl, I'd go to Ike's, then grab a drink at Mission, head down to the Local, cross the street to the Dakota, then finish at Brits.

The Fine Line is about 2 blocks away from Graves.
And definitely go to the electric fetus or treehouse records. I've been bored with Cheapo for years.

Thanks - I'm not sure how much time I'll have to browse (it's a fairly short trip), but hitting one or two stores probably isn't out of the question.

We can do better. Give us one more chance, when I'm not playing a pointless gig.

Minneapolis is one of my favorite Bill Janovitz songs...though I regret to say I've never been there.

I didn't make it to any record stores, but I'm planning to head there again in a few weeks. Minneapolis is now on my short list of potential places to move if the expected layoffs at work happen.
