I was in a fraternity in college, although I was still the music geek I am today.
That said, the late 80's/early 90's (pre-Nevermind) was a sad time, musically for popular music. Hair metal and (mostly) bad hip-hop ruled the day.

So, I put together a mix that I thought might be tollerable to both me and the masses for our frat parties. (Some "college" music with a smattering of dance music.) As it turned out, the masses rejected most of it.

I just found this yesterday and began listening. And, while I do not have a tracklisting, I can tell you that it has:

•R.E.M. (fresh up from the underground with "Superman" and "It's the End Of the World")
• The Cure - "Lovecats"
• Terrence Trent D'arby - "Dance Little Sister"
• Bell Biv Devoe - "Poison"
• Digital Underground - "The Humpty Dance"
• Beastie Boys - "Hey Ladies"
• 2 Live Crew - "Me So Horny"
• Faith No More - "Epic"
• Red Hot Chili Peppers - "Higher Ground"
• Fishbone - "Bonin' In the Boneyard"
and some other stuff that I can't remember.

All in all, I've enjoyed listening to this. But it is strange.

I still have some of my old mixes...some dating as far back as 1990 when I used to record crap off the radio. In fact, I know one of the 1990 ones has "Poison" on it.

It's been a while since I've heard that song.
Great tune.

when I was forced to work as a volunteer for Northwestern development and cold-called recent theatre grads for money (yes, really, they did this, and I had to do it for WNUR) I usually gave my name as either Michael Bivins or Joey Santiago.

Nobody ever got the joke.

See those are the songs that gave me a bad taste in my mouth.... I did listen to the Fishbone, REM, and Cure though. I still don't "get" what's so great about the RHCP.

I was thinking more along the lines of LooGAR's "Tales from the Border," a.k.a. I FOUND A 15-YEAR-OLD MEX.

Two things:

1. Wrong gender
B. He's called Junior because he has the same name as his dad, not due to age.

But, yeah, I did used to work with him. These days, he's down in SA, ese.

this was before i had a computer and for movie dialogue samples i used to hold a mic up to the tv. i did it all though my cd players and mixer so it was more complicated than making a mix is now.

yeah, the main thing too was adjusting the recording level on the tape deck as you switched between CD, records, and other tapes. A 90 minute mix took days.

I think the first tape I made from the TV was for the theme song from "The Greatest American Hero" what a fucking little faggot I was.

i have notebooks of most of the mix tapes i made and i would write down what the volume would need to be at and when to start mixing the 2 tracks together. it's like the scribblings of john doe from seven.

HAHA. No shit. Humpty Dance and Snoop's Ain't No Fun (If the homies can't have none) are, I think, the only 2 rap songs I can sing every word to.
