Ok, I have a Ibanez electric guitar. Model or type escapes me as I am not player in any sense, but I'd like to fool around with it for a bit.

I wanna get a Amp, something under $100 bux or so, for my apartment.

I saw a Hoshino one I liked. Very vintage looking. Will fit nicely with my decor.

the question, whats the difference between an electric and acoustic amp? the sound levels?

i'm not looking to do anything serious here. I just wanna make sure my investment isnt totally foolish, and the items wont work together. IO just want something to play around with.

Strange. I don't think I've ever heard of anyone owning a acoustic guitar amp. I imagine they are for people who play classical or folk guitar and really want to bring out the sound of those instruments.

Basically, if you have an electric guitar you should just get a regular old (electric) guitar amp. If it's just for playing around the house you really don't need something very big. If you really want something basic you can just get a mini practice amp. My friend had a good one... can't remember who made it, but if I do I'll post it here.

Accoustic amps are voiced to make acoustic guitars sound good. That is, they're voiced to sound more like a home stereo or a PA system... flatter inherent EQ curve (the guts, components, speaker, etc all sound a certain way - plug a cd player into a guitar amp and see what I mean). So "accoustic" amps sound more flat, and don't offer distortion. They'd sound good for vocals and keyboards, but not electric guitars. It'd "work" fine. Just wouldn't sound very good.

Guitar amps are set to make electric guitars sound better amplified. Again, plug that Ibanez into a home stereo, and it sounds all wimpy and wierd. So just get any old shitty sub-$100 guitar practice amp. Nothing in that price will sound especially good, so don't sweat the details. Just get something that isn't beaten up if it's used. If you need recommendations, lemme know.

For that kind of money, you can get one of the little Vox amps, which are not bad for what it is. Good for around the house jerking around.

Yep, there are some new options, like the vox, or two of the little Oranges, or a Hiwatt, or the Roland Cube, etc. All lotsa fun.

That thing's so cute! Like a little mini version of the one Neuroboy has.

Speaking of the Orange amps, is there an online dealer for the smaller amps here in the states? I haven't been able to find anyone, but haven't seriously looked either. I figured I see if someone already knew off the top of their head.

Gear1Music.com has them, and humbuckermusic.com out of good ol GA seems to have them, cheaper too.
