Have to give them props for recognizing the brillance of this legendary hc album. Too bad about the rest of the list.

Where did this come from???

Remember when "punk" was hitting mainstream around the time of Green Day's "Dookie" and the Sex Pistols reunion, and Slayer was saying they were punk rock? So, they're back to saying that they are metal, cause metal has a resurgance, right?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Punk_rock - some snippets

Punk rock is an anti-establishment rock music movement with origins in the United States, United Kingdom[1][2] and Australia[3] around 1974-1975, exemplified by bands such as the Ramones,[4] Sex Pistols,[5] The Damned, and The Clash.

Punk rock served as a reaction against 1970s popular music such as disco music, heavy metal, progressive rock[11] and arena rock.

The British punk movement may have drawn upon the do-it-yourself attitude of the Skiffle music craze that emerged amid the post-World War II austerity in Britain. Punk rock in Britain coincided with the end of post-war consensus politics that preceded the rise of Thatcherism. This led many British punk bands to express an angry attitude based on social alienation.

The underground punk movement in the United States and the United Kingdom produced countless bands that either evolved from a punk rock sound, or applied its spirit and DIY ethics to a completely different sound.

SHEFRAC free-lanced for KERRANG! back in the late '80s. Did shots (and I HOPE that's ALL she did) backstage with Pantera for one story. I mean, I respect Dimebag's legacy and all, but I'd rather he hadn't previously drilled my oilfield...if ya know what I mean!

Somehow, I got a TOTALLY different impression of how SHEFRAC would have been. Skrange.

She's completely different now than she was in her HS and college heyday. She used to be a rebellious preacher's daughter with a full-throttle wild child streak. Now, she's a church secretary who volunteers with Special Olympics. Your impression is probably more accurate than you think.

I kinda got the idea that she was ALWAYS mild mannered.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

She has a MUCH more mongerous history than I do. Jaw-dropping mongerousness, in fact.

I just have to ask -- aren't you & Dimebag about the same size (I know, he was, but he's dead, now)? Maybe your wife's the rare female chubby-chaser. (Well, those are rarer than male chubby-chasers... Got-damn! Men are too prone to fetishes, particularly vile ones.)

post-2000, I'd say ATDI, that first Bronx record, "Sing Sing Death House" by The Distillers and something by The Riverboat Gamblers at least belong in the conversation.

considered more of a punk crust classic than metal, and imo it should totally be on a list like this.

the people that put this list together are very young, it's quite obvious.

I usually don't let myself be bothered by lists since I understand that they're based on opinion and not fact, but this one is so awful that I can't believe it wasn't done intentionally. It's great exposure for Kerrang, a magazine I bet the majority of us thought was no longer being published.

I think the fact that there's no Corrosion Of Conformity on this list proves my point precisely.

Your second paragraph negates the first.

I can't believe some of you guys are taking the time to criticize specific things on this list.

It's more the fact that there are so many third generation punk-ish rock bands on the list at the expense of the actual punk bands circa 1975-84 or so. And some of the younger posters have pointed out the dearth of more recent punk bands (which I'm not as familiar with) replaced with more mainstream rock bands not really particularly punk at all.

Where Dead Boys? Where's Richard Hell? Where's Ian Dury? Etc. Etc.
Not that Keraang readers would necesarily know these dudes, but ANY list of best punk albums that overlooks the actual first wave of punk is a silly list.

Besides, nitpicking about what's punk is a 30 year old pastime of all indie rock babblers.

I just meant that the #1 and #2 choices pretty much negate the rest of the list.

There are some good things on there, some stuff I've never heard, some stuff I'd never want to hear, and some stuff that really, really sucks. Which is which and what's been left out is almost a moot point. The whole thing should be scrapped.

But, yeah, any list like this without Richard Hell is pretty much invalidated. FUCK the Dead Boys, though. At least they got that right.

While I wouldn't laugh at anyone who owns these records (as i own half of them myself), this toplist is pretty sketchy (not offense to sketch!). most notably is Sex Pistols at #1. It's got a couple of cool tunes, but it's not a hit-after-hit album like Rancid's "Let's Go" or the Clash's debut. I like Sublime's s/t album but it's a long stretch by even these standards. There's only 1 punk song on it. Probably the same can be said about the Bosstones and LTJ records.

I'll re-agree with Timis that Propaghandhi's "Less Talk, More Rock" is their best work, but the rest of that Fat Wreck crap (another than "Hoss") can take about 50 back seats to other 90s punk.

Also, I'm surprised Me First & The Gimme Gimmes weren't on this list.

man i LOVE that strung out and good riddance record. that 88 fingers and pegboy is solid from front to back. there is alot of 90s punk that i didnt mention...my listing of those bands was just in the vein of the Propaghandhi comment (similar artists).

less talk is ONE HELL of an album.

so what are some of your fav punk albums of the 90s.

the misfits and decendents are what got me into punk - so both of those bands would easily be my top 2 punk bands of all time.
