i haven't even SEEN one since Ewing packed up and moved to Seattle. does anyone care? the more i read about this horrific team makes me think that there are players on that team who continue showing up out of spite. everyone seems to enjoy the fact that they have these untradable contracts and still couldn't beat 4 guys and a girl from the Y in a full-court game.

well they decided to stockpile every 6'7" back to the basket small forward ever without giving the slightest thought as to what they'd do with that. and did anyone really think that signing houston to a billion dollars over a billion years was a good idea when you can get a european to do it for 40 large? i remember even when they signed that deal, everyone knew that they were hamstringing themselves for the decade. and who takes on anfernee hardaway anyway? christ!

Speaking of losers, when the Phoenix Suns were in town last week to play the Knicks, the media got on Stephon Marbury's case regarding the fact that every team he leaves, gets better. The Wolves, the Nets, and now the Suns. One reporter actually came out and placed the "loser" tag on Marbury. :D You gotta love the fact that this team sucks so bad. Kurt Thomas, Tim Thomas, Allan Houston, Penny Hardaway, Nazr Mohammed...I mean, who the hell wants these guys?

Los Angeles area Knicks fan represent!

Sometimes you have to take on a bad contract (Afernee) in order to get a good player - plus, there wasn't anyone to back up Marbury at the time... Odds have them trading him and someone else for Jalen Rose and Donyell Marshall though which, though it'll give them even more 'tweeners, will at least up the talent level of the club...

That Allan Houston deal was the worst deal EVER...

Still, the Ariza / Sweetney / Crawford core has me a bit excited about the future (though I'm still upset they gave up Lampke for Marbury), Tim Thomas and Afernee (if we don't trade him) will come off the cap next year, and talk has them possibly picking up Elden Campbell which, though he isn't spectacular, would be a big improvement over the Mohammed/Baker situation at the 5...

If they make "Blue Chips 2", these guys will probably be involved somehow...

Aren't the Thomases and Nazr (pronounced NAZI!!!) the poster boys for staying in school.

This thread should be called "Are there any NBA fans anyway" they are a lockout/strike away from being the NHL

I'm still a fan, although, it's tough to REALLY follow a team when you're living in another town.

The fact that they are putting out shitty product, and the perception, that despite Artest's massive suspension the inmates run the asylum. (poor choice of metaphors, i know) Overpriced tickets+boring product+major market teams (Knicks, Lakes) suckin it up + tattoos and cornrows = rich white dudes not wanting to watch/pay to watch/sponsor anymore.

Also, I read somewhere that Stern and the NBAPA head are acutely aware of their tenuous position vis-a-vis the sports marketplace and are already working to avoid any kind of work stoppage.

well, i would start by debunking your assumptions. where do you get the idea that it's a boring product? this is by far the most exciting season in years. as far as sponsorship drying up, i don't suspect that you have a lot of data about that and are rather basing it upon some vague feeling that you have, to which i would point out that Georgia is not the World, which is currently the NBA's target market. do you think that it's an accident that recent changes in the way the games are officiated have made the game more akin to the european version and not the grind-out style that we say in the heyday of reiley's knicks and Shaq? it really sounds to me like you suspect that the game will fall apart because you don't want to watch a bunch of black guys with tattoos, for reasons that i would put forth are entirely your own.

you say this like there's a scenario where they wouldn't be working towards precluding a work stoppage. "oh no, the league's making money, we can afford a strike now. i'm gonna go hit the back nine". it's not happening.

Good point about the wolrd market, you are correct that I had not considered that. I don't give a shit what dudes do on their own times/ to their won bodies, I just think the leaguw would do well to prtect its image a bit more, ala the NFL....I knwo where I read most of that shit, in an interview w/Bird, who llike me is a stodgy white dude who used to like sports.

shit, the nfl has had more convictions for drug trafficing and murder than the nba has and they're doing ok.

most of the teams attendance reports look as you'd expect, good teams are up and bad teams are down, except for Washington which i wouldn't understand except that washington is a town full of assholes.

Yeah, but they protect the brand with what is and isn't suitable behavior, how players wear unis, etc...

well it's not as if the nba can start hiding their players behind long pants and helmets. i'm just saying that, while it may be an apt comparisson on a business level, the strategy that each league pursues may not be applicable to the other. the nfl keeps trying to market itself as this wholesome league with values, but every time randy moss threatenes to shake his dick at people (hey, i laughed my ass off) that facade crumbles, especially since it's an america-only market for that sport. it's just not realistic in the modern world is my opinion.

I think I know the problem here....

The Senator's home team is the Hawks, and they haven't had 'Nique for quite a few years now, let alone a decent team...

I don't blame anyone in HotLanta for thinking the NBA (on a whole) is on a downward slide right now...
