let's have at it.

As I've said about 80 times over the last two weeks, USC should've packed their bags and gone home as soon as they lost to Oregon State.

So now we are down to Florida and Michigan. In my mind, it's obviously Michigan, because they did everything they could to be the #2 team in the country.

They are the second best team in the country, there's little doubt about that. Whether or not you want a rematch is secondary. Michigan and Ohio State are the two best teams in the country and should play for the title.

no, they shouldnt have based on their out of conference schedule and the fact that the loss was in conference on the road. they deserved to be in the conversation until today when they lost that second game

up until they lost to Ohio State. At that point they:

1. Lost their biggest game of the year

2. Lost their last game of the year (which matters)

3. Lost their conference. If you can't even win your conference (especially a confernce that doesnt even have a conference championship game) then you don't deserve to play for a national title.

There is no team in college football that I hate more than the Florida Gators, but if you win the SEC with one loss, playing that schedule, you deserve a shot.

florida all the way. michigan has two quality wins, florida has beaten lsu, tennessee, arkansas and georgia. florida won their conference and they havent already had their chance to play OSU. This is why they will be number 2 monday.

1) lost to a better ranked team than Florida lost to, and lost a game they were SUPPOSED to lose, ON THE ROAD, to the only team ranked higher than them, by three points (which even covered the spread!).

2) it matters to some, but not to me. A loss is a loss is a loss. Tell me who you lost to, not when you lost.

3) again, the notion that the 2 best teams in the country cannot be in the same conference is utterly, utterly ludicrous for so many reasons.

Um, I'm pretty damn sure Michigan is projected to be #2 on Monday...

If Michigan played in the SEC, they'd have AT LEAST two losses, probably even three. Ohio State would have at least one. No way either of those teams would have made it through an entire SEC season undefeated this year.

Both OSU and Michigan benefited from playing in what could only in the most generous terms be even considered so much as an average conference.

yes, but it does matter to the human voters and to the computers and as you may know, they are the ones who decide who plays in this game. its a shitty system but its the system that all these teams agreed to play in (yes USC fans, I'm talking to you--you only won one national championship, lsu won the other one)

But those two teams played already and Michigan lost. Enjoy your trip to Pasadena.

Actually, I wish Boise State could play Michigan. That way, it would be definitively proven that either Michigan did NOT deserve another shot at OSU, or that BSU did NOT deserve a BCS bid...because one of those is an absolute truth, we just don't know which at this time.

The only team Michigan has beaten this whole year was Notre Dame, and Notre Dame has since proven that they weren't very good. So Michigan really has no wins. It's a tough choice between a team with zero wins and a team with wins over Arkansas, Tennesee, Georgia, and LSU.

Granted, a loss to Ohio State is better than winning against a top 10 opponent, but I don't think Michigan's loss overcomes Florida's much tougher schedule and much better wins.

Despite the fact I like Michigan and dislike Florida, it would be a disgrace if Michigan got in ahead of Florida. The BCS would have to be blown up (which would be the one good thing).

Or when USC flattens Michigan in the Rose Bowl. (mark my words here)

They did beat an 11-1 Wisconsin team even though Wisconsin played basically a Division I-AA schedule.

You are being too kind. Notre Dame WISHES they simply "weren't very good." The fact is that that their last three losses were by a combined 60 points. That's 6-0. Or, 10 touchdowns without the extra point. There are I-AA teams -- and more than just a few -- who could put up a more respectable showing. The only difference between Charlie Weis and Tyrone Willingham is DiGiorno doesn't want Weis' obese ass within three time zones of their commercials.

The more I think about what a fucking fraudulent farce ND has perpetrated on their fans and much of the country, who is under the EXTREMELY mistaken impression that, "Fighting Irish Football IS BACK!!!," the angrier I get. At least when Bob Davie was at the helm, he didn't use smoke and mirrors to try and convince everyone he had anything better than a 7-4 Insight.com Bowl-caliber team. But everybody loves the huggably gruff Belichick/Parcells-coattail-riding fat ass too much to wipe the Leprechaun jizz off their green-jersey-colored glasses.

Bring back Gerry Fucking Faust so this team can at least be a self-admitted laughingstock once again, instead of the poster boys for Brent Musberger bukakke proud to bathe in his withered batch of Viagra and Chivas.

Bloor's first post in this thread is:
a) the most coherent I have ever seen him write
b) the best post about football in obner history
c) written by a guy who knows more about football than anyone here combined
d) the OPEN truth

I can't add anything to the argument that wasn't covered there.

Bloor for NCAA Chairman!!

This may be a question for Promethium (who probably has loaded the gun and is spinning the chamber watching Neb-OU) but if Florida plays Ohio State, would that mean that Notre Dame would play LSU in the Sugar Bowl?

I am voting Michigan, even though I hate rematches. I think either of these teams will lose big, though, so the poll is pointless.

I can get with "the Big Ten is down this year" argument. Beyond the top three, the entire conference was pretty bad.

However, I cannot get with "if Michigan or Ohio State played in the SEC they would lose games."

Ohio State would/will crush Florida by 30. They have the Gators outclassed at nearly every position except wide receiver.

And Bloor, you are essentially saying that it's more important for the championship game to have teams from two different conferences than it is to have the two best teams in the nation playing each other.

What does the title game mean? What should the title game be?

it should be the best team in the country playing the second best team in the country. Everything else, ABSOLUTELY everything else, is secondary.

Again, I feel this is ludicrous.

There is no way to know for sure who the better team is until they play.

It is very tempting to do what you are doing, and put 100% of your faith in opinions based on how good a team "looks."

Michigan hasn't won a game all year. But they've looked good. Good enough that the majority probably think they are the second best team.

It comes down to this: we can reward a much tougher schedule and much better wins, or we can reward "looking good" while never winning a game. Even if we think Michigan is better, we have to take into account the possibility that we are wrong, and let the games (remember those?) have a say in it too.

Didn't Florida have its fair share of squeakers against truly lesser opponents (South Carolina was it?)? Michigan never had to win a squeaker all year, even if we accept the argument that they "haven't played a game".

In other words, Florida had some creampuffs on the schedule too, and had to sweat out wins against a couple of those teams.
