I donated regularly to the DNC and various organizations.

That didn't work out too well.

Keep in mind that these things take time. In 1875, U.S. Grant signed the Civil Rights Act, prohibiting some types of segregation, and Congress didn't pass another Civil Rights bill until 1957. And the '57 bill was a token, essentially impotent, but it paved the way for the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and Voting Rights Act of 1965, both signed by LBJ, who also directed the 1957 bill.

Few things of this magnitude change overnight. If you really want revolution, you probably aren't going to get to enjoy the spoils. Your descendents however, might be so lucky.

Well, if it's any consolation, I volunteer with Nortwest Medical teams and America Red Cross sometimes.

The evening before last, I donated $40 to some dodgy chap who in return gave me a free bag of sticky herb.

I also donated old, burly jackets to Goodwill this week.

Even better, why not send a check to eff-tee.org...

While that non-existent site remains under perpetual construction, just PayPal the cash directly to me...

Save it. You'll need while you're unemployed in Denmark.

gave a fair amount of $ and some time to charitable organizations already this year. need to save the rest of the $ for the holiday cheer to distract me from the election depression.

Very good idea. I have donated previously to National Parkinson Foundation, and will continue to do so, no matter who wins or loses a presidential race.

I donated a lot to Kerry's campaign and to the National Parkinson Foundation (or a similar organization, I can't remember).

After Kerry lost the election, my grandma, a catholic democrat, said for now on she refuses to donate anymore money to the church. My grandma is going to fund other, more secular organizations instead as a protest against the church's cooperation with the republican party.

She's the one who turned me into a whiny liberal years ago.

Anyway, I donate to the democratic party whenever it's an election season. I donated a lot to Wesley Clark, then Kerry after the primaries and don't regret it at all.

Here's on for grandma:

Americans United for the Separation of Church and State

And don't forget the good ol' ACLU.

donating to political parties is a waste IMO.

it's like donating money to an NFL team.

NFL players don't appoint Supreme Court justices.

2 of my friends and i are going to start having weekly meetings that will hopefully attract a large group of people -
- with the intention of discussing ways to improve the political education of the people in this country
then at some point we plan to start printing up a newsletter that acts as sort of a primer/watchdog piece that we can distribute in the poorer neighborhoods - the idea being that the poor dont have access to read all these blogs & whatnot on the internet, & so are excluded from a lot of the discussions/information that we are privy to
hopefully we can begin to really monitor the legislation that is being drawn up & supported, & by presenting it in a format that anyone who can read can understand, we can begin to get a large segment of the population that is just not a factor in it at the moment involved in the political process
once people realise how things work, and how they are or arent being represented, we can really begin to fundamentally change things in this country
replacing one man/one ideology [perceived] is not going to do anything
you have to recognize that change in a democracy works from the bottom up. once the people are educated enough to know if and why they should be quesitoning what our govt is doing, then the people they elect will better represent the values we hold to be most important.
