I know I'm not the only one. I'm just glad this is a p/t job to supplement my income. Sheesh. People have to get light in the brainworks dept around this time of year. Not only that but lazy as well. A mall record store isn't exactly huge, so I cannot understand why people have problems with layout.

Also, when you are checking out and you ask, "did you find everything you were looking for?", they answer "No, I couldn't find Nickelback, I guess you don't carry them?" Of course we carry them? What self-respecting mall music store doesn't?! We literally have two rows devoted to Nickelback, how can you not find them? If they were looking for Album Leaf or Midlake I would understand it, we have 1 copy of their new records, but Nickelback?

Not to mention the questions of "which would Janet Jackson be under, Janet or Jackson?" Well, have you looked in the J's maybe? Or the ageless question of "Where's The Beatles, I looked in the 'T' section of rock/pop".

This time of year, people pick up enormous amounts of stuff and then leave it lying around the store, which means re-shop is a bitch.

Not that this stuff doesn't happen all year long, its just magnified. Erg.

Working at a record store in Athens, I was once asked "does Led Zeppelin have his own section?"

I am filling internet orders like it's my job. Oh, wait... it is.

Internet and phone orders are a bit crazy, but the storefront is quiet. When all three get going at once, though, yikes.

There are so many things to bitch about retail-workerwise. But that's enough years gone by for me, I don't want to remember.

Let's just say I was a great employee and everyone else sucked endcap farts.

I haven't really had any stupid customers. Everyone has been amazingly friendly and festive. Someone even gave me chocolate!

Wow. I mean, I knew people could be stupid...but it's amazing that not only ONE person, but apparently SEVERAL people can't find the Beatles because they don't think to check under B. Just...wow.

My friend used to work at this store in San Diego and she created a sign that said "no stupid questions" -- anytime someone would ask a stupid question they would point to the sign, and then write their question on the back of the sign.

Do you have to be nice and friendly, or do you get to be snarky to these people?

My brother Matt used to make up whatever customer answer he felt like when he worked at Ames and Walmart. Course he was schizophrenic and also enjoyed messing with people.

It depends. If I know I can get away with it then I'm snarky. Like yesterday f'instance. Someone asked me where "Crash" was, so I showed them the Cronenburg one, when they had a confused look on their face and asked "Is this the one about racism?" I give them a puzzled look and say I'm not familiar with it, then say "I'm just kidding", and take them to the bin with 500 copies of it. I don't do this to be an ass, just a way to let off steam to people who I know might appreciate it. Which the person did, and ended up buying the other Crash as well.

Oh wait, now I remember, when someone would ask a stupid question they would write a tick mark on the sign too. Not surprisingly, some people didn't get it.

God, after years of working retail management or customer service this time of year all I have to say is:

I'm so happy I don't have to work right now.

I do NOT miss the stupid people at all.

I'd kill myself if I had to work in retail again.

The brainless masses, off with their heads.

the best thing about the dog spray is that it's all yellowish and leaves stains so it'll probably look like you hit her with a pee bomb.
