This Barry Bonds issue will be interesting to watch. I hope nobody signs him or Tampa Bay signs hims to a minor-league deal (I know I know!)...

Quote:
It's obvious that the poohbahs at Major League Baseball don't want to see Barry Bonds become the man who breaks that record. So no wonder the conspiracy theories seem to outnumber the bidders these days.

"I'm starting to buy into the theory that no one is going to sign him," said one assistant GM. "When Tom Hicks in Texas comes out one day and says, 'We'd be interested,' and then two days later says, 'No way,' you have to wonder if somebody somewhere said something to him. Don't you?"

"I'm starting to buy into the theory that they are never going to sign anyone worth a damn and Pat Burrel is going to be their starting left fielder," said one assistant GM. "When Tom Hicks in Texas comes out one day and says, 'We'd be interested in Pat the bat,' and then two days later says, 'No way,' you have to wonder if somebody somewhere said something to him. That's too funny. I'm guessing you're not quite happy with the Phillies' off season so far. I'll wait to comment at least until January 1. I'd be curious to see what Gillick does at the Winter Meetings.

As a Rangers fan, I can unequivocally state that Tom Hicks is a retarded douchebag. The fact that he was even planning to offer Bonds a contract irritates me to no end. I wish a more palatable billionaire douchebag retard would buy the Rangers, like Mark Cuban.

shouldn't your qualms be with schuerholz? everything i've read has said they simply didn't offer him a contract and glavine only said he was considering atlanta to drive up the price.

Shut up Z.

Never let reality or facts get in the way of a good sports grudge.

I wonder when the Yanks are going to sign Bonds. Get it over already.

the Giants are screwed. I think it wll be good to get rid of Bonds but we are also losing Finley and Alou. Not sure where we are going to get any hitting. Signed Dave Roberts. So that Dave Roberts, Gramps Viquel, Pedro Feliz, Ray Durham, Rich Aurilia lineup is looking awfully stong.

look at it this way, though - unless he's really great or lands on the DL, he won't get #300 vs. atlanta.

Ah, but now you've got Bruce Bochy, the greatest lover of useless veterans that ever managed.

And good luck with Roberts for 3 years, especially in center (and thanks for the draft picks). He's a nice guy but also a hamstring injury waiting to happen.

But would they pinch hit Mark Bellhorn in the playoffs--with the bases loaded and two outs? Would they even put that piece of shit on the roster?

In the '02 World Series, Baker used such amazing pinch hitters as Shawon Dunston (.231 BA, .536 OPS in regular season), Pedro Feliz (.256/.617), and Tom Goodwin (.250/.659).

Shitty, yes, but they cannot trump Mark Bellhorn's deplorable .190 season avg, though his OPS was comparable at .629

So he had three players each individually slightly better than Bellhorn. But there were three of them! Three!

5 years ago, I'd expect it to, but no there is no chance. No place for him....Outfield is full, and unless the Yanks want Giambi to play first for the whole year, he is gonna be the primary DH.

Some rumors...

Phillies would trade Aaron Rowand and Ryan Madson or Gavin Floyd to the White Sox for Freddy Garcia or Mark Buerhle.

Also, the Phillies would then trade Jon Lieber to the Brewers for Derrick Turnbow and Kevin Mench.

Another deal that's close to happening...

Braves send Adam Laroche to the Angels for Chone Figgins or Casey Kotchman.

i'm surprised the brewers would already be into getting rid of turnbow. the guy had a horrendous second half, but it's not like relief pitchers haven't bounced back from that before.
