My favorite stereotypes are the one that sneak up on you.

Like when I was eating with this black girl and a song came on the radio. She tells me she likes the song, which featured a big sax solo...and then goes...yeah, I know white people think all us black folks love the saxaphone...

I was baffled. Any white people out there been stereotyping black people as a bunch of damn saxaphone lovers?

Where did this come from?

Name a white popular saxophonist outside Stan Getz and Kenny G.

and i'll add another stereotype to the list:

only white people listen to the blues and jazz.
black people only listen to hip hop

Isn't Candy Dulfer a saxophonist? White and female.

By pointing out the white players, are we being saxist?

That stereotype that they try to perpetuate... it can get old and tired quickly.

(especially when you spend years playing in a band with a black bassist who plays as stiff as the white salsa.)

pics, audio clips?

The only one I recognize of those three is Paul Desmond, who is a good call. I had thought of him but wasn't sure where he fell on the popularity scale.

Whaaaaaaat? You gotta get on Gerry Mulligan who is possibly the best baritone saxer ever. Don't sleep on Art Pepper either.

Good joke. ;) Nice call with the Vandermark, and having never seen Mars I keep forgetting he's white.

Everyone from Maine talks like Tom Bosley on Murder, She Wrote.

(Truth is half of us sound like Boomhauer and Earl.)

(The tastefully named) Oregon State Police Lt. Gregg Hastings said a detective interviewed Mrs. Kim, who said they had intended to take Oregon 42, the usual route from Interstate-5 to the south Oregon coast, but missed the turnoff, found Bear Camp Road on the map and decided to take it instead of turning back. Their car was 15 miles from Bear Camp Road when found.
