I stayed back late tonight at the University library, since I have a paper due in Monday. Obviously it was dark when I left at 8pm and I don't like walking around the murder capital of Europe at night with headphones in so I didn't reach for my Creative Zen until I got on the train home. Only I didn't have it.

I'm pretty sure I've left it in the library. Is there any sort of precident for people being honest enough to hand in an MP3 player with a whole lot of albums on it? Because I can't afford another one and I really don't want to listen to cellphone conversations on my commutes.

Please rate my chances of getting it back as a percentage. I'm saying I have a 5% of ever seeing it again. Am I doing society a disservice in thinking that?

Contact the library administration staff the very second they open in the morning.

If they find it: 75% chance
If someone else finds it: 2% chance

Although I would say that people the hang around libraries would probably be more honest than say, those hanging around a bar.

Sorry to hear about your loss.

What time did the library close?

How many people were there when you left?

If you just left if sitting out on a table I'd bet that the library staff would hold on to it.

I agree with s. pacific. Be there when that fucker opens in the morning.

IF I had to lose something valuable, I'd rather leave it at a library than practically anywhere else. Of course it is a University library, so we're talking about students here.

I'd say 25% chance of return.

Either you left at closing, and thus probably nobody got it, so "Be there tomorrow am!"... or

It's still open, and you should be heading back there immediately.

I just hope whoever picks it up realises that it's pretty useless without the software and charger and it is 2 years old so it's about three times as thick as the latest I-Pods and perhaps not that desirable!

I hope, anyway.

1) till 2am but it's not staffed after 9pm (now 9.44pm)

2) I left at 8pm and there were quite few people (lots of papers due in next week) but I was moving around the floors and I'm pretty sure I must have left it the first place I was in the library and that would have been about 4pm when there would have been loads of people around.

Eek!

1) Call down there immediately and see if anyone has turned it in.

2) If it isn't a hassle I'd go back if only for peace of mind.

3) Sorry man, that sucks.

I live way over the other side of town (40 minutes journey) so I can't really go back now (trains stop at 11pm).

For some reason it has Bloc Party on it so hopefully that will repel any would be thieves.

It's a carry-over from the 18th century, when Scots were educated.

When my bag was stolen the only thing I didn't get back was my iPod.

Chin up, though, Darrin!

Oh man.

Yeah I got it back but I was seduced by the almight power of capitalism.

Because I really wasn't expecting to ever see it again I was looking at replacements and I saw a great little 2GB Creative Zen V for only £70 and I just had to get it.

It makes my 20GB Creative Touch look like a wardrobe and is probable half the size of the equivalent I-Pod. It's got a colour screen can store pictures. I couldn't really afford it by I'm fucked anyway so I may as well enjoy the few years I have left before the credit card company butchers me and sells my organs to recoup some of the debt.

So now I have two. I'll probably keep the 20GB Touch in my bag for when I am on the train or at the library and keep the Zen in my pocket for when I'm walking around.

Is Dr. Pepper available in the UK, or do you have to suffice with Mr. Pibb?

Karma works. You seem like a good person and see what happens? You got it back.

Nearly. The answer is 1,000 wma format tracks, which is 50 hours continuous listening. Since I'm probably only going to listening to it at the very most 4 hours a day that leaves plenty of slack.
