THIS IS A TRICK QUESTION.

If your mom has cable upstairs, it still counts as having cable.

Don't have it due to the fact that there is only 1 co. in town and they charge an arm and a leg for their basic service. Plus, with Netflix who needs cable?

But, what if I spend all my hours at home in my s&m dungeon/rape-room, in said basement's basement? Then what?

Just the rabbit ears, baby.

I like the fact that sometimes NOTHING is on and there is no earthly reason to have the tv on. I can't justify watching reality shows or lame-ass spooky/cop shows. Keeps the music flowing through the house. Kinda like being on a diet with a fridge full of celery.

I think the tendency is that if you have hundreds of channels, you always settle for something, even if it is something that you don't particularly care for.

Our daughter doesn't care much for tv, and that seems to be a huge dodged bullet.

I currently have it, but am in the final stages of building a media center with an old(er) computer I have lying around loaded with 2 HD tuner cards and other goodies. When this is done, I will cancel my cable service.
i don't understand this. even with a built in QAM tuner i still only get the local channels in hidef without the cable box. aren't you still going to need the cable subscription to get anything out of the media center?

Nope - I'll just be recording the OTA programming that I pick up with my HD cards and an indoor antenna. In other words, ABC/NBC/CBS/FOX/Etc but not cable channels. From my location, I'm able to get near-flawless reception for all of the free channels. I only watch a handful of cable programs, so I personally can't justify paying the $75 that it will cost when Comcast's rates go up for me next month. RCN (the other local competitor) is not available in my area, and the management company will not allow satellite dishes on my building. I use Beyond TV on my computer so I can get Tivo-like functionality for free.

I have 2 tuner cards so that I'll be able to record 2 shows at once, or radio shows on one and TV on the other. There are dual HD tuner cards out there, but I don't know if they've made it over to the US yet.

No cable, and wedo actually have the rabbit ears here cos we're in an old unrenovated terrace (and before that in a century-old residential college) that doesn't have a roof-mounted arial. Which makes for shit reception since Sydney is so damn hilly, and we're kinda under the flightpath footprint.

Even at my parents house we don't have pay tv, but then supposedly only 1/4 households in Australia have it anyway, so it's not that big a deal. The only thing I'd really want it for would be European football, which except for EPL doesn't get shown a lot anyway

My apartment building got a deal with Time Warner, so i get every station known to mankind. I don't watch 90% of it...

i read somewhere a few months ago, that soon, people will be able to pick and choose exactly what stations they want, and pay per channel instead of getting stuck with a miilion stations they don't want.

My apartment building has the same deal with Time Warner. I live in a huge community development with a bunch of apartment complexes and townhouses.

I'm going to be a TOTAL nerd here and point out that some people might have mistakenly voted "yes" because the thread title is "Does anyone here NOT have cable?".

Yeah i was trying to point out the awkward questioning. I voted No.

See this poll is misleading because people are voting "no" but stating that they have DISH or DirectTV. No cable I would estimate means a tv with no connections other than a VCR or DVD player.

I can't live without my sports. And yeah, I enjoy watching the Discovery Channel, National Geographic, Food Network, etc.

I don't watch much network TV.
