so i've been trying to track down all these songs i remember from watching the blues brothers incessantly as a kid, and have come across sam & dave's "soothe me"... however, i can't seem to find anything but the live version of this track (included on a bunch of stax compilations). does anyone know if there was ever a studio version of this song, and if so where to get it? much thanks...

I have nothing to add to this thread, other than a useless fact that some scenes from the Blues Brothers were filmed in the town where I live.

but sam & daves backing band was often booker t and the mg's, and most of their song were written by either Chef or Sam Cooke.

"Soothe Me" is, in fact, a Sam Cooke song.

I don't know either, but I can point you this way.

Is it not on the Blues Brothers OST?

All I've seen is the live version of Sam & Dave's "Soothe Me" too. If you want the original, Sam Cooke studio version, it's on The Man & His Music, which you really should own anyway.

I found this labled as an "alternative studio take", but I'm not sure if it is the alternative to the live version or another studio take. My feelings lean toward the former.

Are you looking for the version that was in the film? it's not on the OST, but there is a Best of Sam & Dave album (brownish cover) that has that version. I'm not positive it's a studio version but there is no crowd noise. That's actually the only version I've ever heard though, so this could be what you've already found.

If you want I can put it up on slsk.
