So, I'm trying to doctor my old university transcript so that I can continue to get a reduced rate at the Y, and a cheaper bus pass. I've hardly touched Photoshop since I made this 5 years ago:

Image

Now I can't even figure out how to copy and paste. Keep getting this message that I can't copy this area because it is empty. But it fucking ain't. I lasso'd it.

Maybe I should concede that I'm not so poor as to have to cheat like this. Or I could take small comfort in being crafty, and smarter. Or I could throw my laptop at the wall. PM me if you can help, or post here if others don't mind.

Anyway, bonne weekend.

Huh?

Maybe I'm dense (shaddup), but I don't know what you want to do.

Check to make sure you are lassoing on the right layer. If you lasso on a layer where the lasso'd area is blank, you'll get that message.

That makes sense, Fu, except that I don't believe there should be more than one layer. I was able to copy-paste once, and have since received that message. So, I assume that by doing it once, I created a second layer. I'll keep your suggestion in mind.

Finch, I'm trying to change the dates on my transcript in order to appear like I'm in school still.

ayah and fu are right.

Copying and pasting makes a new layer automatically unless you're pasting into an empty layer.

Photoshop has been the source of much headache for me this past week. I had never used it before, and had no idea where to even start. I now have a full 45-card set of trading cards (front and back) about to be printed up for a secret santa gift for my boss. (The Grill Trading Cards... how frightening). They aren't the best, but they're pretty good for figuring it out along the way, and being on a short time frame.

Good luck with that, Ish. Stick it to The Man. (I still use my college ID for things like this because there aren't any dates on it... I had a replacement made two weeks before I graduated for this reason. As long as they don't scan it, it works).

Yeah! Good luck with that! Stick it to "the man"! Fuck the YMCA!

your best bet is to enable the layers dialog box so that you can see which one is selected.

EDIT: hippie.

If you lay them out 4-up (if you put them sideways, you might could probably fit 6 on a sheet, but I'm not sure of the dimensions) on a letter sized sheet of cardstock, your local copy shop (or if you must, Kinko's) can run them off as color copies for about $12, assuming the going rate in Richmond is ~$1.00 per page for color copies. If you want them to trim them as well, it will probably be about another five bucks.

Dear Ish,

1) you're a hippie.

2) go to the "window" menu and select "show layers", then you won't be driving in the dark.

3) you're right: if you copy/paste once it will paste whatever it is you're pasting on to a new layer, then you'll have to click on each layer individually if you want to touch whatever's on in.

4) something else that might be helpful is that if you get something set up that you're really sure you want to keep, and you have too many layers to keep track of in a sane way... you can always "merge" layers. i'd be glad to explain this if you think you'll need it.

5) bad hippie, baaad.

your friend,

Polly

Designing them was the headache, as I am not an artist of any sort and also didn't know what the hell I was doing. I'm saving them as pdf files and taking them to my local copy shop and letting them print them out. Shouldn't be too expensive.
