Because I'm tired of paying 25-35 bucks for each new cartridge which last me a month if I'm lucky...I'm using a crappy yet dependable Lexmark 1100 series color-capable inkjet printer though black ink is fine for my needs.

Has anyone tried used these kits with success? Are they idiot-proof or will I end up spilling ink all over my pants and ruining my printer?

Yo, anyone?

How about a recommendation for a new inkjet printer then.

According to a review on Epinions, they're not worth it. I saw some more reviews in other places saying the same thing.

I've got a HP printer and it works fine. I'm not sure how long the cartridges last but I've only had to replace them twice in the 2+ years I've had the printer. I also don't know what you're printing that uses the cartridges up in a month. :?

I tried some cheap third party cartridges on my last Epson printer. The only problem was they didn't report the ink levels properly like an official cartridge does. When they ran out it sucked because the button that moves the cartridges out of their "hiding space" only works when it thinks they're empty. So I ended up wrecking my printer by forcing the print head out of position to change the ink.

You could get a cheap laser printer. So much faster. And toner cartridges, though more expensive, last longer.

I checked into refilling the cartridges in my Epson 2200. It's an ordeal and a half. Aside from the chip that must be reset once the cartridge is empty there is a vacuum that if broken by doing something as simple as injecting ink into the top kills it. Not to mention what little space there is inside the cart is partly taken up by a sponge.

Agreed; I've had good luck with the Samsung MC-1210 (i believe) laser printer; Cost me a couple hundred, the refill thingy's are about 70 bucks but they last a looong time. In my offices we only need black and white and we print a lot of shit everyday. The two that I bought in 2002 are holding up quite well; (I've always got my eye open for a deal though because when anything made by Samsung goes---its gone)

712C. I'm sure there's a newer model of it now.
