So about this time last year I signed up for their new card that accrues points over the year. They also send you nice weekly coupons as well. This year I think all I've bought in there was a mag or two a month, a bunch of coffees and maybe 1 or 2 $60 cd buying spruges. I'm thinking, at the end of the year none of this will accrue much towards the "holiday" savings other than a few bucks. Last night we went in there, I picked up the new ...And You Will Know Us... (with a 30% off coupon no less at $10), a book on Tom Petty for one friend, a Lester Bangs book for another friend, and then the newest issues of Skyscraper and The Big Takeover. I go to checkout and the guy scans my card then all the merch and says do I want to use my holiday accrued dollars or save them. I say go for it, once again thinking it was a couple of bucks, but to my amazement he says "your total is $1.07". What? Amazing. It saved me about $50. Sweet.

so this is just a promotional kind of card and not a credit card? I have an amazon.com credit card and get points for money I spend anywhere (triple points for amazon purchases), and get $25 coupon at 2500 points. I pay all my bills, etc with this credit card to rack up points fast.

Trail of Dead is great. They seem to be getting cleaner and more cohesive as their releases go on. Still bar wrecking music but to less a degree. Listening to it again now, and "Naked Sun" is awesome.
so this is just a promotional kind of card and not a credit card?
Yup this is a promotional card in which you give them yr name and email and they give you a card. They have a credit card as well, but I haven't bothered with that.

There's a couple of comments on it in this thread.

Best markteting tool ever.

Not only do I get free shit, but, from a marketing standpoint, I DO find myself buying more from Borders than I used to before I had that damn card.

Genius.

Somehow I only ended up with about $25 in reward points. I used some on Saturday to buy Mutantes.

Does Barnes and Noble do this kind of thing too, or do you just get 10% off with the membership?

I read a post such as this, above, & I wonder: now, billzebub, tell me how charli & poptodd are so much worse in their grammar & spelling.

I guess that promethium & flying rabbit ought to feel glad that they have external gonads, otherwise billzy would be critiquing them worse than Dave Tvrdik critiqued the got-damn couch.

Ha. To look at grammar, spelling, etc in posts is absolutely a waste of time and shows you probably don't have anything else to add to the thread other than a not-so-invisible "+1".

Just calling out the blatant double-talk of billzebub.

Then again, he's a libertarian/Libertarian who votes Republican, so he doesn't know any better than to talk out of both sides of his mouth.

I went to Borders for the first time today, thanks to your post.

Nice place. They have the music mags I need now that Tower's (almost) gone. Expensive music. Stuff I see for $10 elsewhere is $18, seems like. But the atmosphere is nice, and they were playing some cool stuff on the PA. I did sign up for the rewards thing. 20% off a purchase over $20 if I go back w/in a couple of weeks. Not much incentive.

It's in a new strip mall that is laid out terribly. You have to get in your car to drive to a store several shops away, because it's all just stretched out in a line. Target seems to be 1/4 mile away.

you kind of have to hunt and peck to find deals there. True, I wouldn't buy the newest newest releases there per se, but I did find AYWKUBTTOOD for $10 and thats just the tip. All the Borders I've been to have great world and jazz sections, not to mention well-stocked rap (tons of under the radar), and electronic sections. The mag section is on par with a B&N. The great thing about Borders is that they constantly have deals. Guarenteed they will have a buy 3 get a 4th free sale after the holidays. Not to mention they usually have a 2 for $20 section with collection gap fillers. Picked up many a Bowie remaster in that deal.
