nah, they didn't use the puppets at this show. this was a "secret show" at the echo, very early in the evening (7:30pm), and very limited public ticket sales. i guess they weren't feeling the puppets.

i saw him 10 years ago with the cardigans and atari teenage riot, and i've always thought that, if he kept putting on shows as good as he did that night, then he'd be OK in the long term.

Beck is on my wish-list of artists I've not seen live yet.

ATR? Damn.

I'm really pissed I didn't make much of an effort to see him with the Lips.

i saw him with the black keys a few years ago. (black keys replaced dashboard confessional about two days before the show. there were a lot of kids who definitely hadn't got the message about DC's cancellation.) it's one of the more entertaining shows i've ever been to. the christmas light suit was particularly fun to see.

Yeah, you can do A LOT WORSE than going to see Beck live. Even when the show is uneven, there are highpoints you'll never forget. Saw the puppets @ Bonnaroo and fairly laughed my ass off.

Saw him on the Midnight Vultures tour. Definitely worth seeing at anytime, I would say.

You can sense that the guy wants to put on an entertaining show but doesn't want to be anyone's dancing monkey. There are probably people at every show that just want to see him pop and lock or whatever.

Also, apparently he is not a very fun, spontaneous person.

Saw him between Odelay and Mutations at a festival, and 'twas fairly sweet.

If there was ever a band i would kill to be in, and by kill i mean dispose of a member, this would be high up on the list. The only problem is that I couldn't kill Justin Meldal-Johnson (sp?) because unlike alot of musicians, that guy actually deserves it. He's really an amazing bassist in a non wankish way.

Now John Stirrat, i wouldn't feel as bad about.

I can't believe TCOS hasn't ever comisssioned an L. Ron biopic starring Jeffrey "Rooney" Jones in the lead role! I mean, Scientologists are cool with molos, right?

Yeah, Justin kills. Isn't he also the official "musical director" of Beck's group?

I dig Stirrat, too. Completely appropriate and tuneful.

damn i missed that show because i was doing work b.s. all day into the early evening. but i was at the echo after for the little ones/small sins show!

in any case, beck does live in silverlake, so these "special" shows happen all the time.
