So to make sure i can properly evaluate everything i've heard in 2006, i'm going to limit myself to 6 more 2006 albums, 3 from emusic and 3 not. Right now for emusic, i'm planning on downloading j dilla's "the shining", evangelicals "so gone" and anathallo "a floating world". Outside of emusic, i still want to hear hidden cameras "awoo", leaving 2 spots open maximum. Then i'll use the rest of the year to evaluate everything else.

Is there anything i "just can't miss", especially considering my current top 20?:

01 "the life pursuit" belle & sebastian
02 "the crane wife" the decemberists
03 the minus 5
04 "rabbit fur coat" jenny lewis with the watson twins
05 "the animal years" josh ritter
06 "fox confessor brings the flood" neko case
07 "dog problems" the format
08 "cannibal sea" the essex green
09 "kick" white rose movement
10 "idols of exile" jason collett

11 "garden ruin" calexico
12 "fishscale" ghostface killah
13 "subtitulo" josh rouse
14 "the loon" tapes 'n tapes
15 "night ripper" girl talk
16 "born again in the usa" loose fur
17 "get lonely" the mountain goats
18 "elan vital" pretty girls make graves
19 "post-war" m.ward
20 "the eraser" thom yorke

Although you'll probably dismiss the suggestions (as I've put them forth before), I'm gonna say:
Tom Zé - Estuando O Pagode
Def Leppard - YEAH!

The Zé make just take a couple of listens, as it is so odd.
The Def Leppard... you just have to accept the fact that they are a good rock band. Playing great classic rock songs. Period. And get past the history.

But we do share a few albums in our top of '06 lists... so we're not TOTALLY incompatible, musically.

we have almost nothing in common among our top 20's.
judging from what's on your list that you might like:
band of horses - everything all the time
midlake - the trials of van occupanther
someone still loves you boris yeltsin - broom
annuals - be he me

or perhaps you've heard all those already and don't like any of them, you tell me.

I think we're actually going to have 5 of the same top 10, so I'll go with:

the Pernice Brothers -- Live A Little
the Brother Kite -- Waiting for the time to Be Right
Bright Light Fever -- The Evening Owl

haven't heard Ze~. Read reviews & RIYL. Not sure if it'd be something i'd like or not, but i am intrigued by what he'd sound like.

i won the def leppard album from a radio station. it's a good album of covers from def leppard.

Technically The Loon is an '05 album (I didn't get it until early 'o6, though).

You probably heard most of these but since they're not listed and they all make my top ten . . .

Grandaddy - Just Like The Fambly Cat
The Black Heart Procession - The Spell
Sparklehorse - Dreamt For Light Years In The Belly Of A Mountain
Built To Spill - You In Reverse
Babyshambles - The Blinding (EP)

FWIW The Crane Wife, Garden Ruin, Born Again In The USA, and The Eraser are all in my top twenty as well.

i think my top 20 is going to be different than everyone else's here. that is, if i can even narrow down my top 20. this is giving me a headache.

I just received Peter, Bjorn and John, M. Craft and the Bon Savants in the mail today.

My list has already been made for Hip D, though.

Not quite sure how to answer this one. Neither is AMG; they list OK GO, the Strokes, Eagles of Death Metal, Interpol & the Killers.

Haven't listened to EODM, but I can see Queens of the Stoneage, if they went a little more pop...kind of like the Figgs. Don't know if this helps, but the best comparison I can make is The Cavedogs.
