Goddamn, I was hoping to go to the UK next year. But have you checked out the current exchange rate?! It's 2 quid for 1 USD!!! That's fuckin' expensive!

More likely, 2$US to 1 quid.

Blame the negative savings of the U.S. citizenry! Blame the Chinese holders of our (governmental) debt!

I'm going to Sweden on Saturday and the exchange rate is $1 = 6.8 kr. The first time I went there it was $1 = 10 kr. I'm pretty much paying 35% more for the same thing. My wife is shopping like crazy too.

Ooops! You're absolutely right. I was shocked and couldn't think straight!

I think I saw it at 2.14 in Heathrow last week. I don't see how working people survive over there- everything seemed indecently expensive.

They're either on gov't relief, or selling drugs to Pete Doherty. Whichever pulls more cheese.

Travel abroad is worth every penny in my opinion.

Suck it up. What are you gonna do? Wait 20 years until the dollar is strong again?

If you want to go, make it happen.

<------going to Italy next year on the "hobo budget"

Travelling on the Euro is a lot cheaper than the Pound.

I would definite 'suck it up' if I were planning on staying with my Scottish mates again. But I hope to go to Big Day Out (UK's version of SXSW) in Brighton Beach next year. Am gonna see about recruiting a friend or two to help defray some of the hotel cost. Airfare is no biggie, it's the hotel and transportation that'll keep me from paying a mortgage.

Just turned down an opportunity to live there for two years with my job. Would have been cool but my company won't balls up and pay me what I deserve for moving there. At least not enough for both me and the gf to go.

Guess that has less to do with the exchange rate and more to do with my company.

Oh well...

one of my friends is getting transferred to london next year. he said it's his call when it happens, but he'd basically be commuting from chicago to london if it were past february. and i am pretty sure he is getting hooked up real well. he's really amped about it. i, of course, will probably be visiting for a summer festival at some point in the next few years.

A double cheeseburger combo meal from a UK Burger King will do that.
