What I'm looking for here are the shows that had not just one or two, but THREE bands on the bill that knocked you on your ass.

I know Jimmy and No Knife were touring together, but I thought the 764-HERO appearance was a one-off because the Denver venue accidentally double-booked.

Also, Banhart was by far the weakest part of the above show, but he was still pretty good.

2005 - The Constantines, The Hold Steady, Thunderbirds Are Now

2006 - The Mighty Go-Go Players, Turpentine Brothers, Tunnel Of Love
2006 - Peanut Butter Wolf, Guilty Simpson, MED, Percee P, Aloe Blacc, J Rocc

Well, 2 of the 3 acts were kinda meh, but the middle act made up for all of it:

outside of festivals, this has never happened to me. i've had a bunch of cool double-bills though.

The Shins/764-Hero/Modest Mouse: Irving Plaza-NYC-2001

The Shins were a new band at the time, Oh, Inverted World was still at least 6 months off, I remember coming in about 2 songs in and doing a "who the fuck are these guys, they're great" along with a double take.

Now that is the kind of experience that this thread is all about!

i guess i would say another good triple bill i saw was

beep beep/tv on the radio/the faint.

i mean, kind of forgettable at parts, but one of the most fun shows i've been to for sure

I feel gypped. Instead of Black Oak Arkansas, I got stuck with Ozark Mountain Daredevils when that tour rolled through Big D. Fuckin' "Jackie Blue."

Gang Gang Dance / Growing / Animal Collective

Growing literally knocked me on my ass due to the volume. I hated them for a while because of it. Even with ear protection I had hearing problems for a couple of days.

eugenius/flaming lips/mudhoney ca. 1994, roseland ballroom, nyc

eugene kelly put on an amazing show, flaming lips were still more of a 'rock' band, and mark arm blew a speaker with one of his trademark yowls

Vic Chesnutt (solo), Two Dollar Pistols, The Starroom Boys, at the 40 watt in maybe 96.

Vic was druuuuunk but heartfelt, the Pistols were just beginning to hit their stride with that frighteningly good monkeyman guitar player, and the Boys had just gotten settled into their new guitarist Phillip, who was finally shedding his rock roots (and his marshall amp for gods sake) in favor of good twang. A solid 4 hours of entertainment, and probably maybe $8 at the door.
