The story on eBay needs to be read, if you are into that sort of thing, insane.

$36,000 for a scratched up LP? I hope the poor find a way to filet and eat the winner.

This is being auctioned by a fellow in Montreal who runs a record store called Backroom Records and Pastries, unmarked and accessible only from the back alley. I couldn't find it last weekend, but I may try again today.

Pretty crazy. My bet goes to a Japanese vinyl collector. They always seem to be spending the exorbinant fees on music-related fanfare.

Stories like this are what keep me digging through records. Unfortunately, I didn't find any insanely rare VU albums for 75 cents at Amoeba this weekend :(

It would appear that many of the serious prospective buyers have no clue how ebay's bidding works. There are at least 20 bids today, and each of them is just a few hundred more than the last. This guy is gonna make a killing. I'm guessing Universal will attempt a snipe since they are interested in releasing a CD of this.

I was at the auctioner's store today and apparently the sale ended up being bogus. It was funny to hear him talk about only ever expecting to get $10000 for it. And that people keep referring to him from all over as some sort of authority on the Velvet Underground, whereas he actually only "thinks they're okaaaay". If nothing else, at least the widespread knowledge of this item, and its supposed value will keep the next auction's bids higher than expected. It was on CNN, but the dude runs a record store out of the back shed of his Mile End apartment!

I've also never seen so many girls in a little record store before. Seems the Mile End hipster golddiggers have revealed themselves.

Ish, you are popular. Anyways this link, because of Ishish story, came up on ILM sandbox (the real ILM is off-line at the moment). Anyways Ish is right about this whole thing being bogus.

Actually, haha, here's me pictured with Warren Hill at his Backroom Pastries in the weekly Montreal Mirror paper.

Tell me, though. Where is my ass? I gotta start playing sports again.

It's back (from Pitchfork):

Oh boy, here we go again. As previously reported, Sunset Rubdown merch guy Warren Hill scored the supreme rock'n'roll artifact, an acetate test-pressing of an early version of the first Velvet Underground record, for $0.75. He put it on eBay, somebody named "mechadaddy" won it last Friday, and as mentioned in our year-end news wrap-up, "mechadaddy" turned out to be just some schmo whose buddy hacked into his eBay account. A deadbeat, as they call them on the wild frontiers of eBaynia.

But Warren's not daunted by one chump bidder, no no! He re-listed the acetate for auction today, but here's the catch: only pre-approved eBay users can bid, which means you have to e-mail Hill first. Info here.

And hot golly, it's only $0.99 right now! The best part: Dude's already making a profit.
