Hi

Yesterday I received my annual statement from the Student Loans Company and was surprised to see I'm being charged interest on my loan (£12 per month in fact) during the duration of my studies. I say surprised but perhaps flabberghasted would be closer to the mark. You see even those blood sucking pricks at my bank don't charge interest on my borrowings over the course of my studies. I'll say that again. EVEN THE BLOOD SUCKING PRICKS AT MY BANK DON'T CHARGE INTEREST ON MY BORROWINGS OVER THE COURSE OF MY STUDIES.

Since I am already paying £12 per month on my first years loan, I assume then that by the time I reach my senior Honours year I'll have four times the debt and therefore four times the interest charge. This works out at over £40 PER MONTH!

Seriously! Why don't you just come round to my house and point a gun at me you fucking robbers!

Might I remind you that people who are forced to take out loans are generally students from poorer backgrounds who don't have rich mummies and daddies and a horse called Gypsy and silver spoons in their mouths! It seems to me then that poorer students, who have no other option but to take a student loan in order to study at University and who have very little money during term time, are being completely shafted by the Minke Whale cocked rapists at the SLC! That's what you are RAPISTS! MINKE WHALE COCKED RAPISTS! RAPING THE POOR! Do you kidnap people as well? I bet every radiator down there has a poor person chained to it! Why don't you crawl up the moral ladder by stealing the beads off nuns! Mug the handicapped, at least they might have income!

Well I won't stand for it! You disgusting slime over there in your fancy office building with a cappucino machine THAT POOR PEOPLE PAID FOR can fucking whistle for the money. I don't mind paying this loan back when I have a job or even being charged interest when I leave University but you won't get away with charging me interest while I'm studing for exams! I'll sign off with a clear statement of intention over this matter: You won't get a penny extra out of me, NOT A FUCKING PENNY!

Konstant says "Phew! Glad I got that off my chest."

How does one make that "pound" sign on one's computer?

Hey, if the bank doesnt charge interest during your studies, why not go to the bank and have them consolidate all the loans?

Hold down the Alt Key and press 0163 on the number pad, like this: £

You can also do:
Alt+0165: ¥
Alt+0162: ¢
Alt+0153: ™
Alt+0169: ©
Alt+0174: ®

There's more, but those are the more common ones. Except for Yen anyway.

It's a overdraft as opposed to a loan that I have with the bank.

If you go out and buy a sofa you get a years free credit, these fuckers were charging me interest 3 days into my first term!

Ah, who cares. I'll just get that book 'How To Disappear Completely'.

I figured it was something like that. I recently had to look up how to do umulets or whatever (the motley crue little dot thingys) for a blog posting.

Why not just copy/paste from a Crüe or Hüsker Dü website? or AMG?

I was genuinely curious as to how to go about doing it.

That is the way most student loans work. In the US, the only student loans that don't charge you interest while you are in school are subsidized stafford loans, which you would qualify for based on financial need. All others -- unsubsidized stafford loans, parent plus loans, graduate plus loans, private student loans -- will all charge you interest while you are in school then add the accumulated interest to the principal balance when you cease enrollment.

It may only be of some consolation to you but it's a good thing you're not living in 18th century England where they'd throw you into debtor's prison for not paying your debts. Actually, I just paid off my student loan last month and they didn't charge me any interest during the time I was in school or even after I was finished so maybe this is just a Scotland thing.

My wife finished her degree in 2001 after leaving college initially in 1988. So she's 38 now and her loan payment schedule goes until 2021. So she'll be able to join AARP just after the debt's paid off, barring us making larger payments before then.

Remarks like this should very well have the same effect as Marie Antoinette's (apocryphal?) "let them eat cake", with a revolution coming to Hip Displeasure. Darrin will be on the march.

FT, you have been warned.

Bobo only meant Darrin's awesome and fascinating.

Also has such a mixture of bad luck and fatalism you can't tell the two apart.

I thnk it's the student loan people that keep calling me and leaving me those damn automated messages that you never hear all of because the voice mail starts recording after the outgoing message, whereas their little prerecorded message starts as soon as the line picks up. That was a long sentence. I'm a little behind on payment (not seriously behind; I missed one) and now they won't get off my back. But they also don't send me my invoices and monthly statements like they are supposed to, so that is why I forget to pay them. I have no pre-addressed envelope to send them! And as far as looking up the address and using my own envelope; what do they think I am, responsible??
