Haven't been to one in 8 years (last time I worked for anybody normal).

The girl wants me to go to a "Bad Christmas Sweater" part being thrown by some of her underlings at her work. I dunno.

I'm going to my first work Xmas party in 7-8 years next week. Then a client invited me to his Open House/Holiday party between Xmas & New Year.

I've been working for an events company lately for some extra holiday cash. So I've been to about 5 holiday parties, for companies that aren't that big...and they would give away gifts more expensive than my entire days paycheck.

my company...nothin.

The last office Christmas party I was at was 2004.

Since I worked in local government in a pretty dangerous area, our night out got pretty scary. We had to leave one bar after I got involved in an argument with some nutcase friday night warrior type.

Then the next place we went to you had to walk through a private pool table area full of hoodlums with knife scars and eventually one big bear grabbed me and told me I wasn't using the toilets again.

So every time I needed a pee I had to run across the road to the pub we'd originally left, worrying about bumping into the first wacko. But he was much smaller than the other one so it was a no brainer what toilet I was using.

On the way home I slipped on ice (maybe I would have stayed upright if I hadn't been completely pissed) and ripped my suit trousers.

Use the cash you spend on the party for my bonus, please.

These never turn out good.

I've been to mine the last couple years and they have sucked so bad that I am refusing to go this year.

Reasons to not go to my party:

1) 2 drink ticket limit (the only positive reason but it's not worth driving 30 minutes for)
2) Company trivia
3) I have to talk to co-workers
4) Bad DJ
5) Falcons/Cowboys game on at same time

Last but not least:

6) The Electric Slide

same here. i missed it because i was in florida.

xmas parties in my past have never turned out well. there was the year that i didn't know that you're supposed to wear black to evening parties and wore a bright red sweater and skirt. another year, i got so drunk, i broke the toilet seat when i fell in the bathroom. and the mistletoe... never over the hot guy. never.

Gotta admit, I actually had a good time at my company party last night. Previous years have sucked the big one.

That's because, now that you're the boss, people are sucking up to you instead of you doing the sucking up!

Nope, I'm not a boss yet nor has it been announced. It's still a secret.

The party was lacking in alcohol, though. All we had was wine.

mine's tonight. i didn't go last year because i didn't know about it. and i wasn't formally notified this year because, after six months of working here, i wasn't on the departmental listserv, but enough people had talked about it for me to know. i might stay for a little while.

I'm one of three in my office, so no Christmas party, or even Christmas lunch, for me

2005: They took us a cruise around NYC with dinner and full open bar. I get sea sick easily, but managed to have a decent time.

2006: We were bad, so there was no x-mas party, but then decided to havea lunch in the conference room, which was also promptly taken away yesterday cause we were bad again.

i swear, we are treated like children!

Company took away the company-wide Christmas party a few years ago, instituted in its place a twice-yearly "top performers" weekend where a small batch of the "best of the best" would get to go to a hotel for two days and attend mandatory meetings, lunches, and dinners. In other words, the hotel weekend is a tax write-off, the Christmas party was not. We have all been bitter since then - not that I even went to or ever wanted to go to the Christmas party, but I think people who want to (and that's most of them) should have such a thing. No holiday bonuses, either - but then we have to beg for office supplies, so that doesn't come as much of a surprise (this is not an indication of the success of our company - we're huge. It's merely an indication of how miserly they are.)

Instead, our team has their own holiday lunch, which is fine because it'll be someplace from which I actually want to eat the food. We'll go in with the intention to pay, but our director will probably show up toward the end like he has in the past and foot the bill. If not, not a big deal, I guess.

We have a pretty flexible work environment...Since it is magazine publishing, we have people coming in at all hours. Boss doesnt care if you come in at 12 as long as you put in at least 8 hours...

Few times this year, people have taken the liberty of inviting friends to the office for mini parties....We lease space inside this office, and two nights ago, one of the 'party' atendee's stole some stuff which was caught on camera......our boss decided to punish everyone based on 3 peoples actions.....yes, we are treated like children.

You should be pissed off at those 3 people not your boss.

our xmas party sucked. i mean, it was at an upscale hotel with mucho treats, a decent dj and open bar. but it was boooooooring. with no real plan for the party except dancing, barely anyone danced and everyone basically chatted with those they were familiar with.

last year was better -- a casino party. sure, we weren't playing for money -- the chips turned into raffle tickets at the end of the night for prizes -- but it was still fun to show off my hold'em skills. :)
