So...

The massive early Xmas present is a 25-hundred dollar Mac, which so far is amazing. Replaces my 9-year old Gateway PC.

However, I can't use Launchcast on it.

And I can't use Soulseek on it.

So far.

My Launchcast station is an important part of my sanity. Been building it for more than 5 years, listen to it every day. It's how I find out about much, much new music.

And Soulseek is a must for quick YSI and mix inclusion purposes.

The battle betwen Microsoft and Apple has left me pissed. The Mac is so superior to the old PC I don't want to use the PC expect for peripheral purposes.

But, since I work in radio 45 hours a week, I don't want to switch my free listening time to online radio where other people decide what to play and I have to muddle through it. I want to continue using Launchcast Plus, where I've built up my own station.

Suggestions?

you can get a program that allows you to run windows on your mac - cant remember the name of it but my friend has it and it works great.

Not sure about Launchcast, but I can help on the Soulseek side.

The mac version of Soulseek is called Solarseek. You can also look here and see if you can find updates or mac versions of software you're trying to find:

www.versiontracker.com/macosx

Then it would have been "new big mac," not "big new mac"

you shouldn't let software tell you what music to listen to.

I'm finding Pandora is a good Mac replacement for Launchcast now that I've put a stack of artists in the Quick Mix. Will likely use itunes much more, but Pandora brings up tracks I forgot I liked, which is cool.

Anyway, color me a converted Mac Man now. After a few days of being annoyed at sites with Safari-compatability issues, I've found this machine is pretty awesome.

If you run into any problems with that one, I use another one called SoulseeX which works great. Been using it for about a year now.

I was thinking Mark McGwire initially. Maybe a HOF rant. I guess it really was a computer thread.

those 24 inchers sure do look nice, but i have a real problem tying a really nice monitor, something that should last you ten years or so, to other equipment that will be outdated in 3 years or so. that being said, its a great piece of equipment for the time being.
